Dancing for a cause
It was a wonderful evening of fun and more fun when the socially responsible Cebu consular corps proudly honored the ahead-of-their-times Arts Council of Cebu with a Gala Filipina Ball to commemorate its 50th anniversary.
There were a few brief speeches by a few speakers, excellent food whipped up by the talented chefs of the Casino Español de Cebu. The Casino Espanol, the venue of the event held a grand waltz reminiscent of the days gone by. Cebu’s 300 set the tone of the affair where the ladies dressed in their exquisite Filipiniana gowns — from the fully beaded kimonos to the eye-catching baro’t sayas, the traditional Maria Claras to the elegant ternos. The gentlemen came in hand-embroidered barong tagalogs in jusi or piña.
And then there was dancing all throughout the night.
Graciously hosted by the Cebu Holdings, the fund-raising dinner reception unexpectedly over shot their set target to finance the various programs and projects of the Council.
Pockets and purses may have been emptied, but appreciative smiles and fulfilled hearts bursting with gratitude reigned supreme that evening, not too long ago.
