Hear this: Tonight Claude Tayag & Glenda Barretto cook for the deaf

-

MANILA, Philippines – Tonight, the Philippine Institute for the Deaf (PID), the pioneer and premier oral school for the deaf, hosts a dinner event which celebrates classic Filipino cuisine from renowned Via Mare founder Glenda Barretto and Philippine STAR columnist and artist chef Claude Tayag. The dinner will be held at the Top Shelf, Fully Booked, in Serendra at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

The event, “Deaf-initely Very Special Dinner” will have deaf kids as the servers for the evening. Enjoy conversing with them and experience how the deaf can be taught to speak and lip read. All proceeds from the dinner will benefit the PID Scholarship Fund to reach out and rescue more deaf children from their silent world and provide them the “gift of speech.”

PID is the only institution which supports teaching our deaf children how to speak, instead of the traditional sign language, in order to improve their confidence level and assimilate more smoothly into the mainstream of society.

The dinner will showcase timeless Filipino recipes of Barretto and Tayag which are featured in their best-selling cookbook Kulinarya. The PID chairpersons for the event are Tunde Fafunwa and Gari Palmani. Other highlights of the evening include performances by the Neo-Classic Strings Quartet and special numbers from PID singing deaf students. Board chairman Cynthia Romero Mamon will present the organization’s mission and charity milestones in a special video and will render special song numbers to serenade the guests.

Tickets are priced at P1,500. For more information, call Evelyn Cataga at 564-0156, SMS 0927-239-5841 or e-mail escataga@gmail.com
