It’s all in the beans

- By   Rebecca C. Rodriguez -

There is nothing like a good cup of coffee to wake you up before you go-go. For the ultimate caffeine fix, the secret lies in the roasting of the beans. Burn them and you will get a bitter symphony of sorts.

For the perfect cup of coffee, head over to Seattle’s Best Coffee shops. This American brand from Seattle uses nothing but the finest beans that are perfectly roasted to unlock the full flavor of coffee. Then, the beans are blended using their very own recipes to create well-balanced roasts with greater depth and dimension.

Here’s a little coffee bean history: Seattle’s Best Coffee’s Henry blend of coffee was named as homage to a cat named Henry. During the construction of one of the brand’s coffee shops, there was a cat always lingering there. This blend is nutty and flavorful thanks to the smooth and slow roast.

“It is the taste of our coffee that makes Seattle’s Best Coffee different from everyone else’s,” says Karen Cosico, group marketing director for Seattle’s Best Coffee. “We are a coffee brand for more discerning people. It’s not about the trend but it’s more of understanding what good coffee is all about.”

In each sip of SBC’s blends, expect bold flavor and smooth taste. Just like my favorite Raspberry Mocha Kiss. I like it because it combines the bittersweet taste of mocha sweetened by raspberry syrup. Plus, the chocolate stick is a great way to top off the drink with whipped cream.

Oh, there are other hot coffee drinks as well. If cappuccino is your first love, then add a dash of vanilla for a unique blend. Try Almond Mocha Joy if you want the distinct almond flavor in each sip. Perhaps the boldest flavor of them all is the Irish Coffee Breve, which has an espresso kick mixed with Irish cream.

Cosico enthuses, “We are proud about the taste of coffee. Others would say it’s about experiences, but we are known for coffee because the taste is full body, flavorful and not bitter.”

Other cold drinks include the refreshing Javanilla, which is guaranteed to hit a sweet spot. This line combines coffee with coffee ice cream and SBC’s own Java Mix. Chocoholics will surely love the Iced White Chocolate Mocha. This silky coffee concoction blends together bold coffee and delicate white chocolate in perfect harmony. If dark chocolate is your fancy, try the Javachip Javakula with chocolate chip bits or the Brownie Javakula for a sinful yet sweet indulgence.

“We are proud of our menu,” explains Cosico. “We did research by asking guests to fill our comment card and this is how SBC started with all-day breakfast meals.”

Now, SBC serves freshly cooked gourmet meals to complement that perfect cup of coffee. There’s an all-day breakfast menu so you can get fluffy pancakes with crispy bacon strips or sausages in the evening. Plus, there are omelets as well, filled with ham and cheese, herbed potatoes or sausage and mushrooms served with a side French toast. For a heavier breakfast, there’s corned beef, bacon or sausages served with a side of eggs and freshly toasted wheat bread.

Other meals to enjoy are SBC’s hearty pasta dishes like the Amatriciana, Arrabiatta and nutty basil-flavored pesto in penne noodles Leafy greends include Tuna, Chef’s or their All-Vegetable salads. If you’re in a rush, there are deli-style ham, salami or clubhouse sandwiches made with juicy tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers and savory cheese with tangy honey mustard dressing served with crunchy corn chips.

SBC has been in the country for six years now. This coffee brand has a number of branches all over Metro Manila, places where it matters. With its latest branches in Bonifacio High Street and TriNoma, one will truly feel the Seattle experience like in the grunge movie Singles. Expect comfy seats, lofty look, cozy interiors and photographs of key places in Seattle. Plus, the in-house music will surely set one in a jazz trance.

Coffee lovers will enjoy SBC’s Great Holiday Giveaway Frequency card. With 20 stamps (six holiday drinks and 14 SBC drinks), one will get a package worth P1,500 like freebies that include a canvas tote, personal planner, year-round perk coupons, metal case pen and personal SBC mug.

As a coffee connoisseur, you will definitely know what makes a good cup of coffee as it all lies in the beans. Cosico concludes, “We want the promise of the brand to be in every cup served.”
