Whattacook!

LEISURE UNLIMITED - LEISURE UNLIMITED By Heidi Ng -
Let’s face it. Some actors and actresses are more famous than government leaders. Because of the power of television, faces that grace the boob tube are popular and well-liked. Talk ’N Text endorser Marvin Agustin’s face is splattered on streamers even as far as Zamboanga down south. His popularity is further bolstered by being on the show Whattamen, aired every Wednesday, on the daily soap Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas, where he plays best friends with Kristine Hermosa and Kaye Abad, and as a semi-regular in Tanging Ina, as one of Ai Ai Delas Alas’ sons – all on ABS-CBN. Aside from these shows, he is also busy shooting a movie opposite Rica Peralejo slated for the forthcoming Metro Manila Film Festival.

He plays different characters on TV and in the movies, but one role the public has not really seen him in is as a cook. Despite his busy schedule, Marvin finds time to whip up some dishes in the kitchen. He remembers when he was still young that he would get whatever was left in the fridge and mix them together to create a dish. The first thing he learned to cook was his mom’s recipe for adobo. His mom’s recipe is different from the usual adobo recipe because he first fries the pork or chicken pieces before
adding the soy sauce, vinegar and sugar.

Because of his erratic schedule, he does not have much time to cook. However, when the opportunity arises, he dons his apron and cooks for the family or for "special people."

He refuses to add fuel to the rumor mill, declining to comment on their identities. But he adds, "They get amazed because, for a guy with a really busy schedule, I can cook and they like what I cook."

What’s a dream dinner like for Marvin Agustin? Three beautiful women top his list of who he dreams of cooking for – Ashley Judd, Charlize Theron and pop princess Britney Spears. He would serve them this special pasta dish, the recipe for which he now share
s with Philippine STAR readers, and grill pepper steak. In reality, "I love cooking for my girlfriend," he says with a twinkle in his eye.

Celebrities are not perfect even though some of us might be inclined to think so. Marvin shares that seven years ago when he tried cooking for his date who loved Filipino dishes, he cooked crispy pata that turned out like bubble gum and adobo that was so s
alty. In his own words, "It was a disaster!" He says with a laugh, "We ended up ordering pizza."

Through the years and with more practice, Marvin is now a better cook. He suggests a glass of Bin 555 Australian Shiraz when eating this pasta creation. Buon appetito!
