As modern medicine begins to accept the age-old adage that a healthy mind is tantamount to a healthy body, and while everyone is greatly interested in keeping their bodies healthy as an end to the pursuit of happiness, it is not surprising that we are all constantly on the lookout for a hideaway retreat that refreshes the body, invigorates the spirit and even renews the soul. One such discovery is the Badian Island Resort and Spa, a place of landscaped not-a-leaf-on-the-ground gardens of floral beauty, a spot of peaceful tranquility.
If one is in a real, serious rush and has mucho dinero to spare, it is simply a quick 20-minute hop by chopper from the Mactan International Airport. But for those who are starting from the center of Cebu City, it is well worth the little over two-hour scenic drive down south. A motorized boat awaits guests at the pier which will take the holidaymakers on a mere 15-minute crossing to the enchanting isle.
Upon disembarkation, a dozen or so ever-smiling singers, accompanied by an accomplished rondalla, all resort and spa employees I later learned, serenade guests with the islands’ beguiling songs. Soon thereafter, under the shade of swaying palm trees, everyone enjoys a refreshing glad-to-have-you-with-us fruit drink. Oftentimes, hands-on owners-partners Maria Catral and Hartwig Scholtz lead the welcome party.
