It was almost back to normal socializing (but with health measures in mind) for last week’s gathering of the charitable Best Dressed Women of the Philippines for their project, Giving Hearts.

Organized by the indefatigable Angola Consul Helen Ong, the idea of having a keepsake book originated with the realization that there could not be the usual annual fundraising balls for 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, continued social distancing, and extreme safety measures.

Yet there was a need to continue raising funds for the Philippine Cancer Society. With that in mind, a coffee-table book would be the ideal solution with a supportive group led by Ruby Chua with members Agile Zamora and Nikki Tang.

As Helen explained, “Going through this pandemic for the second year only intensified our desire to continue raising awareness and funds to help our fellow Filipinos who have been gravely affected by cancer. It’s been a trying two years, to say the least, but we are determined to proceed in making a difference.”

Many beautiful and generous individuals joined the call with almost a hundred men and women willing to be featured for a very worthy cause that raised P8 million. The committee has been able to reach their goal of giving back in order to shed light, awareness, and assistance. All funds raised directly go to the Philippine Cancer Society to sustain numerous existing programs as well as implement new ones.

“For the last 18 years, the society has been extremely grateful to the BDWP for continuously providing the much-needed funding support for most of our programs that affect the stricken sector of our nation,” said Philippine Cancer Society president Dr. Corazon Ngelangel.

Sponsors for this event were PAGCOR, IPM Holdings, Hermès, Museo Orlina Foundation Inc., St. Peter Life Plan and Chapels, BA Securities, Inc., Flora Chua, Beging Soriano, Aspen Philippines Inc., Ruby Chua, and San Miguel Corporation.
