Headlights dimmed? how to restore the light in your eyes
Light the way: La Prairie White Caviar Eye Extraordinaire reshapes the architecture of the eye, fights chromatic disturbances, and firms and smoothens skin. La Prairie is available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

Just as the power of light can transform the structure of a house, its illumination can also alter the appearance of the eye.

That was brought home at the launch of La Prairie’s White Caviar Eye Extraordinaire, a new eye cream that illuminates and improves the architecture of the eye to make it appear younger — banishing dark circles, reducing eye bags and firming loose skin.

La Prairie Philippines invited architects Benjee and Annabelle Mendoza of BAAD Studio to talk about how they transformed a narrow house they’d built into a seemingly spacious abode by bringing in more light.

“Architecture is all about light,” Benjee emphasized.

You could say the same about La Prairie’s White Caviar collection, which brightens skin by addressing the causes of discoloration that prevent skin from looking luminous — what they call “chromatic disturbances.”

“Gray pigment on our skin comes from dust particles and pollution,” explains La Prairie’s education manager Portia Santos. “The brown ones come from dark spots as we age. Yellow are the sugar molecules in collagen, red for hemoglobin, and the newest color is violet, which is de-oxygenated hemoglobin. So if there’s not enough oxygen, it turns out that our skin will be blue or purplish.”

Not only does White Caviar Eye Extraordinaire address all five of these chromatic disturbances, it’s also infused with Lumidose, which inhibits the production of melanin.

Another factor that affects how our eyes look is the way the skin around it reflects light. “When the surface of your skin is rough, more shadows are created,” notes Santos. “To address this problem, our product also contains Golden Caviar, which helps firm and smoothen the surface of your skin.”

The final element is shape: the contrast between light and shadow. “Harmonizing the eye area by reshaping the architecture will reduce the shadows and produce more luminosity,” Santos said. “Putting it all together, we have the three elements for skin luminosity around the eye.”

White Caviar Eye Extraordinaire is packaged as luxuriously as all of La Prairie’s creams. Sitting on its throne within a silver box is a white jar with airless pump that keeps the product pure and potent. A press of the inverted button dispenses the correct amount of cream for both eyes, which you’re supposed to apply with pressing and rolling motions of your fingers.

Enclosed is a white ceramic pearl wand to massage the product into the entire area, including above and in between your brows. Don’t worry: an enclosed leaflet explains all.

Through clinical studies, La Prairie found that after four weeks of application, 73 percent of the panelists confirmed that the five chromatic disturbances were reduced, and that their eye contour improved.

After eight weeks, the number who noticed their chromatic disturbances reduced increased to 79 percent, while those who observed improvement in their eye contour jumped to 82 percent. Another plus: eye bags were reduced by 28 percent.

“Putting it all together, our product reshapes the architecture of the eye, fights chromatic disturbances, and firms and smoothens the surface of your skin,” Santos concluded.

It’s a promise that’s very hard to resist.
