WATCH: Nadine Lustre reveals real score behind controversial ABS-CBN Ball outfit

MANILA, Philippines — For the first time ever, ABS-CBN opened its annual ball to the network’s stars who were not necessarily under the network’s homegrown talent agency Star Magic.

Among those invited to attend the ball for the first time were the love team JaDine, James Reid and Nadine Lustre.

In an interview with Philstar.com, Nadine revealed the concept behind her ball dress, which was named as both “best” and “worst” by different media outfits.

According to her, contrary to reports, she really intended to wear a Garimon Roferos creation ever since, and not one by Michael Cinco.

“My outfit was my idea, James just kinda followed the concept,” Nadine said.

She revealed that British singer FKA Twigs, who was engaged to actor Robert Pattinson of “Twilight” fame, inspired her controversial black ball dress.

"Because I’ve been listening a lot of FKA Twigs, the concept kinda came from her and also drag race,” Nadine chuckled. “Medyo weird ‘yung aesthetic nya (FKA Twigs). Beautiful but very sharp on the edges, something like that.”

Though the dress was her idea, she admitted, “I got sore walking around in that dress.”

Being in that dress the whole night, she said, “was the most difficult” part of attending the ball.

“Parang it was the same experience I had when I was wearing a wedding dress the whole day for ‘On the Wings of Love’ before. So heavy, so hot, I didn’t get up the whole day to get photos.”

She changed to a more comfortable dress late at night so she could dance.

Her sacrifice, however, was not in vain as the ball was for a good cause: to raise funds for children’s charity Bantay Bata.

For the next ball, Nadine said she does not mind wearing something just as unexpected as sneakers.

“As a sneakerhead, I always want to wear something that is both stylish and comfortable. I love going out and hanging out with my friends, but at the same time, I love dressing up. So could you imagine, partying all night with my friends, it’s so hassle wearing heels,” she said on why she is a perfect fit to become Skecher’s first Filipina endorser.

Nadine joins the brand’s international roster of ambassadors such as pop singer Camila Cabello, TV personality Brook Burke-Charvet, and K-pop artist Zico.

The brand’s D’Lites, she said, is perfect for her personal style as it combines retro design, street attitude, and comfort. — Videos by Kat Leandicho
