And now, an anti-aging product that works round the clock

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

Dear Rissa,

I feel like I’ve been looking so haggard even if I get enough sleep, eat right, and exercise. My skin looks dull and my Tita even said I look like I got older!  Is there a mask or face cream that can help me fix this?

Cheska

It’s great that you take care of yourself from the inside — sleep, good diet, and exercise are key to your appearance and well-being. But there are a lot of external (and invisible!) factors that affect your skin, too! First, we live in a tropical country and the harsh sun is an everyday reality. Exposure to harmful UV rays can cause dark spots, uneven skin tone, and aging. Second, pollution is another invisible enemy. Commuting or stepping out of the house exposes you to dirt and bacteria that can clog your pores, cause discoloration, aging, and dullness. Lastly, stress is a huge factor in making the skin look haggard. Today’s 24-hour non-stop lifestyle, juggled with work, family, and social media, leads to high levels of stress that can age you faster.

I’ve been a devoted user of Pond’s for 10 years now and their products have made a big difference to my skin. I’ve honestly never felt younger than today. I’m really excited about the newest Pond’s Age Miracle range because it’s the first anti-aging formula with breakthrough Retinol-C Complex. This ingredient goes deep within and works 24-hours non-stop in releasing anti-aging actives. Retinol is an amazing ingredient proven to address wrinkles, fine lines, age spots; smoothen skin and encourage cell renewal so skin on the surface is always young, fresh, and glowing.

Yes, we may be facing a lot of changes in life and the environment, but Pond’s helps us face all these changes with beautiful skin..                                                                                                         Rissa

Wanted: Leather Bag Restorer

Dear Lucy,

I have leather bags that were unfortunately not stored properly. Is it worth saving by bringing them to those shops specializing in bag restoration?

Where can I find nice evening bags that do not cost an arm and a leg? And what should I look for? What is a good budget to peg for a dressy purse?

Monica

I have mixed feelings about shops that promise to restore leather bags. Some are good, some just downright ruin the leather bag (even if they have good intentions). If you are seriously considering it, I would suggest that before you have your bag restored, do make time to sit down with the manager of the shop and/or the shopowner just to level off expectations. Some of them overpromise, and they are not able to deliver satisfactorily. I had an experience once when all I wanted was for a tiny part that got nicked to be fixed and they, horror of horrors, colored the entire bag! Apparently, they were not able to match the color and to cover up their mistake, they colored the entire bag. Others may have had a better experience and since you are asking me, I would say that yes, based on personal experience, I would definitely advise you to not only proceed with caution, but also proceed at your own risk.

If your bag is precious, and from a big designer house, I would suggest that you bring it there and have it repaired as needed. It may be more expensive, but at least you are assured that quality is/will be good.

Regarding evening bags, there are so many lovely local brands available. There is Aranaz, with its gorgeous collection of export-quality minaudieres. Do keep in mind that most anything in your closet should be valued not so much for its price tag but also how it functions, for you — how much you are able to use it, how much pleasure using it gives you, how long it will last. You need not have everything but everything you have must be, at the very least, beautiful in your eyes. Build your collection slowly but surely.

Lucy
