What to wear with flats
DEAR LUCY,
All of a sudden, I want to give up heels. I can afford to, because I am slim and quite tall, but what can I wear with flats that will still make me look pulled together? What other items of clothing will look good with flats?
I also have a hair problem. I had my hair layered and when it is newly shampooed, it goes every which way. Buhaghag. A blowdry is not always a viable option. What shortcut can I do? EDS
My favorite thing to do, especially when I am entertaining at home — and I know I will be running around a lot — is to wear a floor-length dress or pantsuit. It hides my feet, so I can wear flats and skip heels altogether. Full and A-line skirts and capri pants will always look good with flats, and you can throw in a slim cardigan to complete the look.
For your hair, a stylist once taught me to apply conditioner first (but not on the roots so it does not weigh hair down and make the scalp oily) before shampoo. Brush it out with a wide-toothed comb after you’ve rinsed with water so that it does not dry in a tangled mess.

Look slimmer with a bronzer
DEAR RISSA,
I look so pale right now and want to start using a bronzer. I’m not sure how to use the powder on my face. Where should I be applying it?
JANE
Bronzer is magical. Beautiful tanned skin instantly makes you look slimmer and nothing can compare to that sexy glow a tan gives off. Using a bronzer also spares your skin from the harmful UV rays and is a great option for sunless tanning. For it to look natural, you should apply the bronzer where the sun naturally hits your face. Dust it lightly across your cheekbones, forehead, the bridge on your nose, and your chin to instantly give warmth to your face.
I love bronzers because when my color changes after a trip to the beach, I add this to my regular makeup routine. With a powder brush, I sweep it on top of my old powder foundation. It takes out the need to buy a new shade of foundation. My old foundation becomes the right color after dusting on a great glowing color. You can also use a bronzer on your collarbones and shoulders for a sexy summer glow all year round.
