Erica Reyes gives new life to old jewelry
Erica Concepcion Reyes has been greatly influenced by her fashionable maternal grandmother, Letty Villamor Santos, when it comes to jewelry. Looking at the Riqueza line, one can easily spot her fine taste in jewelry as she uses Philippine antique coins and tambourines, finely carved jade, coral and cameos, pre-banned ivory, floral crystals, and other interesting pieces. Upon close inspection, one notices that the workmanship is very “pulido” with settings in vermeil silver to keep prices affordable. At times, she uses semi-precious stones for accent pieces, but can easily work with 14- to 18-karat gold and diamonds when enlightened by a major inspiration or when there is a special request to do so.
One of Erica’s specialties is reworking old settings into something new, yet keeping the essence of the ornament. The idea of creating something interesting from unique vintage finds into au courant objects keeps her creative juices flowing.
“I am flattered that my work is appreciated. I hope to create pieces that will bring joy to the wearer. It is always a thrill when a client buys my jewelry and tells me that it makes her feel and look beautiful.”
