MANILA, Philippines - Meet three notable college athletes who are conquering their passions while juggling school, family and social life all at the same time. To them, there is no time like today.
The rivalry between the women’s volleyball teams of Ateneo and De La Salle brought to the national spotlight some of this generation’s most talented volleyball players, one of whom is Mika Reyes. She spends mornings and late afternoons training, and attends classes in between.
Mika shares a lot of similarities with fellow volleyball player and best friend Jessey de Leon. Both girls graduated from the same high school and both are middle hitters.
Their most important similarity, however, lies in their passion for sports. Despite the heavy workload from school, Mika and Jessey are tops in their field, proving that one can be a good student and an athlete at the same time. Not to mention remaining friends while playing for different teams.
This year, team captain JR Gallarza is more inspired than ever to lead his team to more success. The 23-year-old education major is also a magna cum laude candidate, a plus point for athletes who spend most of their days on the playing court.
