LOOK: Photoshopped image of woman reveals beauty standards in 18 countries

Alixandra Caole Vila - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - Beauty is defined in various ways across countries, and pop culture has always been one of the most influential medium contributing to the way we see beauty.

To give light on how people from different nations perceive beauty differently, Superdrug Online Doctors commissioned Fractl to ask eighteen freelance designers from different cultures to edit an image of woman and make it fit with their culture's perception of an ideal female form.

“The goal of this project is to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world,” the website says.

The outcomes varied from edited body trimmings and tweaked hair color to changes in attire.

The images also showed that designers from North, South, and Central America defined beauty as having an hourglass figure. Meanwhile, those from European and Asian nations chose to make the appearance of the woman extremely thin.

China and Italy made the thinnest edited figures while Spain made woman on the photo the most voluptuous.
