Sam Dans & Joanna Lim: A wedding in paradise

PERSONAL CHOICE - Frannie Jacinto - The Philippine Star

Joanna Lim moved to New York City in 2005 after earning a degree in Export Management  from De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde and working in Rustan’s Marketing in Manila.  This smart young lady then entered the Fashion Institute of Technology and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Bachelor of Science, major in Textile Development. Since she thrived in the fashion world, she joined Tracy Reese’s design team as development manager in the fabric and production department. This popular ladies’ line specializes in ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and home fashions with a flagship store in Manhattan.

Soon after moving to New York, Joanna met Brown University graduate Sam Das on a double date.  The investment banker and the fashion lover  hit it off right away with their many common interests.

A cute marriage proposal was set up seven years later on Sam’s natal day, assisted by Logan, their black Labrador Retriever.  While Joanna was resting in Sam’s apartment after the birthday celebration, the smart pet run from the kitchen area and sat calmly in front of her.  Attached to his neck was a small white box tied with a bright red ribbon.  As Sam took the ring box from Logan’s neck, he knelt down on one knee and presented a sparkling diamond ring, asking Joanna to marry him.  Completely taken by surprise, it took the  bride-to-be a whole minute to say “yes.”

Wedding plans were made and the sunny south shore of Kauai, Hawaii was chosen since it was so close to paradise —with perfect weather and the most beautiful scenery.  Except on this wedding day, when strong gusts of wind hit the island. As Joanna was ready to walk down the aisle, her veil flew all the way across the church. Luckily, one of the groom’s  friends immediately ran after it and put it right back on the bride with nary a tear  or mark.

Even the wedding reception at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resorts and Spa  was not spared since it was struck by a rainstorm. But, keeping in mind that rain means good luck, it was a great way to start their married life, with everyone having a marvelous time as the newlyweds and their guests celebrated a new beginning.
