Kate Moss: ‘I have grown up’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Kate Moss has grown up — as a designer.

This is reflected in Topshop’s spring-summer 2014 collection using luxurious fabrics such as silk chiffons sourced in London Soho, gold lamé from Italy, and intricate lace from India.

“I love the whole process of designing — from hanging out with the girls in the design team, building the concept, getting excited about seeing the various stages of sampling, making tweaks and improvements and then seeing the final collection coming together,” says Moss.

“My first collection was seven years ago and I have grown up since then. The things that I want to wear are different now. It is a natural evolvement. I learned a lot from my experience the first time around, so I didn’t come in blind this time — I knew the process. Philip (Green) has taught me a lot throughout the process and I now have a more extensive knowledge across many areas of design, buying, fabrication and achieving different levels of quality,” Kate adds.

Making the collection “More Kate” are items based on Kate’s wardrobe — vintage-inspired pieces that she herself finds difficult to find when shopping in second-hand stores because the lace is either ripped or sequins fall off.

Kate offered a change from denim and a more lighweight choice over leather for summer with the butter-soft suede found in the collection. The weave waistcoat is a statement piece and epitomizes Kate’s Seventies’ wardrobe staples. The suede “runner” shorts, available in olive and black, carry a tiny braid detail down the sides, again stepping up the deluxe element for spring/summer. And the fringed jacket references one Kate has worn to three Rolling Stones concerts and refers to as her “gig jacket.”

Kate has worked hard with Topshop design and buying teams to deliver this much-updated and more premium collection, reaffirming her unrivaled position as the true British fashion icon.

Key design categories for this collection begin with Balearic dressing, a reflection of Kate’s love for Balearic Islands. Carefully embroidered smock-tops, silk blouses and a white kaftan, which Kate loves to wear in summer, are found in the collection. The bold Aztec dress has a handmade feel and the heavily embroidered crochet lace dresses, which either skim the thigh or the ankle, are available in cream or black.

Pajama dressing adds a total new element to the Kate Moss Topshop range. Silk satin sourced in London’s Soho carries two distinct prints: a subtle, distorted floral design and a vivid Oriental-inspired flower pattern. Both prints will be available in high-waisted trousers, blouses and an ultimate pajama coat.

Cocktail Hour is flirtatious and sexy with hemlines either slashed at the thigh or falling to the floor. The intentional vintage effects, opulent trims and detailing such as cobweb beadwork, sequin bead fringing and crepe satin splicing, all provide a delicate and deluxe element to the designs.

Tailoring Noir introduces a beautiful selection of tailoring including tuxes and trouser suits in black and black gold metallic mixes, a bias-cut liquid metallic lamé dress and lamé floral-printed shirts — offering a chic, smart alternative to dressing up for a summer evening.

The Kate Moss Topshop Collection will be available at Topshop Robinsons Magnolia, Power Plant Mall, Greenbelt 3, SM Aura Premier and soon in Mega Fashion Hall.
