Daniel Teichert & Maureen Disini: From a blind date to the altar

PERSONAL CHOICE - Frannie Jacinto - The Philippine Star

Maureen Disini is one of my favorite go-to designers for long gowns.  Aside from being one of the sweetest persons I know, she is at her happiest making beautiful dresses for her clientele in a chic atelier in Makati.

Living and breathing fashion, she has been educated here and abroad and continually took up fashion courses in Europe to hone her craft. Upon her return, many more were clamoring to own a Maureen Disini to wear for  a special occasion.

In 2011, she met  Daniel Teichert on a blind date. There didn’t seem to be an attraction on Maureen’s end, but this German business executive was persistent because he knew that he had met the love of his life.  Soon after, they hit it off and two years later, there was a romantic proposal in Cebu with  a beautiful diamond ring presented to his lady love.

Together with Rita Neri, it took 10 months to plan the Christian garden ceremony held in Pintoresco, a beautiful Tagaytay vacation house owned by the bride’s brother.  The entourage was truly a family affair  with her siblings in full attendance as groomsmen and bridesmaids together with her Assumption high school classmates. The principal sponsors were handpicked from among the couple’s favorite family friends — Manoling and Sandie Poblador, Edgardo Zaragoza,Tata Poblador, Tita Trillo, Irene Francisco, Susan Macuja, German Castillo,  Carlos Yam, Alfonso Reyno, Arturo Luz and Tessie Luz.

Maureen was a hands-on bride and dressed her female entourage in neutral hues by choosing taupe, old rose, nude and dove gray that she knew would work well together.

Though Maureen wanted to design her own wedding gown as she searched high and low in Istanbul, London, Paris, Singapore and Thailand for the right lace material, there was nothing suitable she could find. With only six weeks left before the wedding, she finally  found the perfect gown in Paris and it was by none other than Valentino.  This was something unexpected because it was so different from the gowns she was known for — it had no corset or beadwork  and the layers upon layers of silk gazar looked like the airy clouds.

The fun summer reception at Antonio’s  lasted till the wee hours with over 230 guests who flew in from all parts of the globe.

Reminiscing about her special day, Maureen says, “I don’t remember much about the wedding, but I do remember my entrance in the garden as the choir sang Panunumpa. It was truly the happiest day of my life as I was surrounded by the people  so dear to me.”
