Heroine street-style chic

MANILA, Philippines - Moody, haunt- ing, mysterious and with lots of street-style atti- tude: that’s what the season’s trends are all about.

Topshop’s au- tumn/winter 2013 collection features gothic maxis, play- ful retro and tai- lored pieces with menswear appeal.

Heroine chic dominates The Craft, Margot’s World and This is England collec- tions, bringing in oversized pieces with super-sized style that tell their own stories.

The Craft brings stylephiles back to the cult ‘90s teen film with simple silhouettes paired with oversized boyfriend outer- wear pieces. Flo- rals, feathers, but- terflies and other patterns with wa- tercolor-effect ink their way into the collection. Moulded appliqué and corded trophy sweats worn with maxi and midi floaty dresses create the high-low feel for this trend. Topshop’s key pieces are embellished with mono- chromatic laser cuts, studs and colorful embroideries. The long leg jumpsuit in jacquard or lace material resurfaces while fit- and-flare dresses come in softer fabrications and prints.

Margot’s World is also a massive trend. This brings in the chic heroines of films like Femme Fatales and Wes Anderson’s Suzy from Moonrise Kingdom. The iconic Margot in The Royal Tenenbaums is also a fashion influence. This colorful and playful trend has a slight retro feel but with a modern twist. Simple but sensational mini shift dresses are worn under plasticized vinyl overcoats; tailored jackets are making a comeback; and socks are slipping back to the heavy soled platform shoes.

This is England takes inspiration from the ‘80s with key pieces consisting of bomber jackets, polo shirts, jeans and brogue boots for an androgynous feel. Adding a touch of femininity but staying true to its androgynous vibe, the collection also consists of pencil skirts in denim, leather or checks.
