Celeteque: Safe, smart, science-based skincare

We’ve heard about supposedly fortifying facial treatments using red caviar and champagne, the raw meat wraps to clarify splotchy skin, the facial scrubs and masks of bird turd and animal sperm that supposedly make skin young and firm. Really, skin treatments have a tendency to become extremely weird. But still, there is no end to the gullible and desperate takers who are willing to try these out. Indeed, there are people who will stop at nothing to look beautiful.

Believe me, I know. Until he was caught, my vain, clueless cousin regularly filched nitroglycerin patches for cardiac patients from my mother’s clinic. He and his friends plastered these on their faces to get a blush on their cheeks that didn’t fade or wipe off. Never mind that the whole bunch of them suffered headaches all day long.

However, it is a good thing that we are conscious about taking better care of ourselves overall and protecting our skin from damage. Still, when it pertains to skin, things can become a bit tricky. With all the cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliating and protective merchandise available, choosing the right product can become confusing and a bit of a chore.

What would be a good guide in choosing skin products? “Not all skin products are created equal,” says Dr. Eric Schweiger.
