Two love stories
Philip Nazareno & Yvette Wells
With the summer heat in full blast, it was a respite to attend evening wedding affairs that helped cool down our body temperatures.
It was almost love at first sight on the part of lawyer-businessman Philip Nazareno when he met low-key human Resources consultant Yvette Wells, who thought that it was only friendship that kept them together as co-Rotarians for five years.
After a one-year courtship, Philip proposed during an intimate dinner at a Makati hotel. While settling in, Philip left allegedly to go the men’s room but came back with a single long-stemmed rose, which he put on the table in front of Yvette. A few steps behind was Noel Cabangon toting his guitar, who started playing the opening notes of one of the couple’s favorite songs, Ang Tangi Kong Pag-Ibig, an original composition of the noted Mr. Cabangon. All the while Yvette had tears of joy and was embarrassed to be the center of attention among the other diners.
As Cabangon played the last notes of the song, Philip sat beside Yvette and offered an heirloom 2.8-carat diamond ring. To the couples’ surprise, the ring was three sizes too small, but Yvette joyfully accepted the proposal. Before things could settle down, another friend of the couple’s and a member of their Rotary Club, theater actress Juno Henares, came in with a violinist in tow, and proceeded to sing Someone Like You from the musical Jekyll and Hyde, one of Yvette’s favorite love songs. That started a new round of tears from the soon-to-be bride.
What made this such a sentimental ceremony was the touching poem and prose readings as well as a special song number by the groom’s sisters. The wedding reception was held at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel with a delicious dinner paired with wines from Tita Trillo’s Titania Wines. Rhett Eala executed the bridal gown.

Carlo Dionisio & Karen Gavino
After being introduced by a common friend and a few dates, businessman Carlo Dionisio knew that dermatologist Karen Gavino would be his perfect bride. On board the plane for a quick weekend getaway to Boracay, he promptly popped the question but the prospective groom left the ring at his home instead of bringing it with him in his travel bag. Luckily, Karen graciously agreed to be his bride despite being ring-less during their stay at the island.
It was smooth sailing from then on, with a beautiful wedding ceremony at the San Antonio Church in Forbes Park and a reception at the Manila Polo Club. The bridal couple was attired in their elegant JC Buendia ensembles surrounded by those near and dear to them.
