In the mood for mod
MANILA, Philippines - Summer 2012 signals the comeback of 1960s style and fashion. As seen in the latest lineup of hip, contemporary retail house The Ramp Crossings, it is once again the season of the timeless mod (or modernist) trend.
The Ramp, the store’s namesake in-house brand, lets you make a powerful entrance with its streamlined and polished ensembles by combining ever-reliable white neutrals and classic blacks with primary colors, including the hue of the season, mustard. Utilizing modern tailoring, clean lines and soft silhouettes, the brand’s latest offering presents an anthology of key trendy pieces, featuring looks reminiscent of the 1960s modernist era when smart bespoke suits were in vogue.
Highlights from the runway show signaled the rise of the updated mod trend with double-knit tops and dresses; pieces rendered in cut-and-sew lace; long-sleeved tees from The Ramp Kids; and casual shorts, cuffed pants, jackets, and tailored shirts for men. Take style notes from a welcome assortment of tank tops, paneled shorts, elongated pencil skirts, sheer short and maxi dresses, as well as fluid blouses for women — all of which stay true to the fun of the Swinging Sixties.
More than anything, the mod era was defined by the historical turn in fashion, where dressing styles became more relevant for men. While The Ramp’s collection for women offers a rich array of eye-catching and edgy accessories ranging from earrings, necklaces and bracelets to belts, bags, and wallets, the on-trend lineup from Mundo, the in-house menswear label, has made its mark as well. Casual button downs, crisp shirts, and crewneck tees sported geometric patterns and color-blocked hues; and men’s oxford shoes had eyelet tabs and cap toes in attention-grabbing, bold hues.
