Enter the Dragon with Star and Swatch

MANILA, Philippines - Each year, The Philippine STAR and Swatch celebrate Chinese New Year with the Annual Chinese New Year Art Competition.

This year, the contest which starts today focuses on the most creative T-shirt design. The theme of the competition is “Enter the Dragon.” The promo period is from Jan. 4 to Feb. 29, 2012. The contest is open to all.

Here’s how to join: The participants should submit an actual T-shirt entry with their own dragon design using a Swatch watch as an inspiration. Entry forms will be published in The Philippine STAR every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for the duration of the promo.

All entries must be submitted by 8 p.m. of Feb. 29, and must be accompanied by a completed Entry Form & Contest Guidelines Acceptance Form (available at any Swatch Store, Swatch Kiosk or Hole In The Wall Shop).

Enclose the T-shirt entry, the filled-up Entry Form and the filled-up Contest Guidelines Acceptance Form in a long plastic envelope. Seal and sign on the flap.

Entries may be brought personally to any Swatch Store, Swatch Kiosk or Hole In The Wall Shop starting today, Jan. 4. Entries will be received by the store OIC or Gift Gate Inc. representative by issuing an acknowledgement receipt and logging the entry in the “Enter the Dragon” log sheet for proper documentation and storage.

All entries will be sent to the Gift Gate Inc. home office at 17 New York St., Cubao, 1109, Quezon City every week for safekeeping.

The entries of the top 50 finalists will automatically become the exclusive property of Gift Gate Inc. and may be used, copied, reproduced and/or reprinted by Gift Gate Inc. into any size or medium for a fashion show, exhibition, advertising, promotion or whatever purpose.

The top 50 finalists further allow Gift Gate Inc. to use his/her name and/or image/picture/likeness without limit in conjunction with his winning entry.

Gift Gate Inc. reserves and maintains all intellectual property rights over its name and logo and all names, likeness and logos of its represented brands including but not limited to Swatch. Contest participants may only use the above in conjunction with his entry into this contest and for no other purpose.

Final judging will be on March 7, 2 p.m., at the Gift Gate Inc. home office at 17 New York St., Cubao, 1109, Quezon City. Participants are eligible to win any of the prizes. However, a participant can only win once, and the higher prize prevails.

The criteria for judging are Originality (25 percent), Creativity (50 percent), Composition (25 percent) for a total of 100 percent.

Prizes shall be as follows: first prize is P100,000 in cash and the Swatch “Year of the Dragon” watch; second prize is P50,000 in cash and the Swatch “Year of the Dragon” watch; third prize is P30,000 in cash and the Swatch “Year of the Dragon” watch; fourth prize is P20,000 in cash and the Swatch “Year of the Dragon” watch; and the 10 honorable mentions each get a Swatch “Year of the Dragon” watch, while the 36 finalists get P1,000 Swatch gift certificates

All winners will be notified via registered mail.

Winners shall also be announced in The Philippine STAR on March 11.

Awarding of prizes shall be at The Dragon Ball in The Mind Museum, JY Campos Park, 3rd Ave., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on March 16.

All prizes not claimed after 60 days from receipt of notification letter shall be forfeited with prior approval from DTI.

Winners within Metro Manila who cannot make it on the awarding day will be asked to present themselves at the Gift Gate Inc. home office, 17 New York St., Cubao, 1109, Quezon City, Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon or from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. with their proper documents.

Winners with provincial addresses who cannot make it on the awarding day may request in writing for their prize to be sent to their preferred address via courier. The courier charges shall be shouldered by Gift Gate Inc. 

Winners must present all of the following to claim their prize: valid original I.D. (birth certificate, passport, driver’s license or SSS ID), acknowledgement receipt, and notification letter. All prizes are non-transferrable and non-cash prizes are non-convertible to cash.

The withholding tax of 20 percent for all prizes exceeding P10,000 shall be shouldered by the winner.

The decision of the board of judges with the concurrence of DTI of the art contest is final and cannot be appealed.

All employees of Gift Gate Inc., The Philippine STAR, the judging committee and their relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity are not allowed to join this promotion.
