Oliver Tolentino is 2011 Samsung Metrowear icon

-

MANILA, Philippines - Metro magazine presents another homegrown talent in its second Metrowear installment of 2011 — Samsung Metrowear icon Oliver Tolentino.

Slated on Oct. 24, the gala fashion show features Oliver’s 60-piece collection of cocktail dresses, red carpet gowns and menswear. The show is for the benefit of Bantay Bata, a non-government organization, which Oliver supports.

“Children are forever at a disadvantage if they don’t have quality education. It makes me sad to think of a child who wants to be educated but doesn’t get it because his or her family can’t afford it,” he says.

Piolo Pascual, Kaye Tinga, Audrey Tan-Zubiri, Metro Society editor in chief Raul Manzano and philanthropist Bettina Osmeña are the show’s ambassadors.

Oliver started his career designing gowns for the Philippines’ elite circle, including former First Lady Imelda Marcos. He is among the few Filipino designers to expand their lines to the US. In fact, he now has a boutique on Melrose Boulevard.

Oliver has represented the Philippines with his creations in different fashion events mounted by the United Nations in Switzerland, Milan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. He also had the privilege to compete with renowned artists at the exclusive Oscars Designer Challenge.

Designer Oliver Tolentino with Amber Riley

Oliver combines classic looks and elegant styles with vibrant colors and prints in his creations. His attention to detail has caught the eye of fashionistas all over the world. His clients include The Voice coach Ceelo Green, Macy Gray, Glee star Amber Riley, actress Vivica Fox, One Tree Hill beauty Sophia Bush, and our very own Anna Maria Perez de Tagle.

Oliver represented the Philippines recently at the United Colors of Fashion (UCOF) charity fashion event and gala. His works featured classic looks made from Philippine fabrics such as piña, abaca, raw silk cocoon and a new fabric made from water lily and jute.

“As most people know, I proudly promote my roots and our native fabrics wherever I go,” Oliver enthuses.

“I love doing shows and my expectations are high for this one. The Metrowear Icon shows are always well done, so I was flattered when the organizers approached me early in the year about being part of their event.”
