'Hair and Makeup Trends 2011' today at Philtrade

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s homegrown hairstylists and makeup artists gather anew to celebrate the latest in beauty trends at the “Hair and Makeup Trends 2011’’ today, May 18  at the grand ballroom of the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), Roxas Blvd. corner Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Pasay City.

Mounted by the Filipino Hairdressers Cooperative (Filhair Co-op) in cooperation with Co-op Natco, Babyliss PRO, and HBS, Hair and Makeup Trends is an annual competition that gathers more than 4,000 hairdressers and makeup artists nationwide.

Spearheaded by Filhair and Asia Pacific Hairdressers & Cosmetologist Association (APHCA) president Ricky Reyes, Hair and Makeup Trends gives beauty professionals a venue to showcase both practical and fantastic hair and makeup creations, to interact with their peers and beauty experts, learn new tricks of the trade, and sample the latest beauty and styling products and tools on the market.

The hair and makeup competition is open to all Filipino hairdressers, amateur and professional. Competition categories include avant-garde cut and color for men, ladies’ cut and color, commercial makeup, bridal makeup, and the search for Babyliss PRO Styling Master. Judges will come from the APHCA member countries of South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

The winners of the other categories will receive special prizes from the sponsors and get the chance to represent the Philippines at the upcoming APHCA’s International Hair & Makeup Competition in Macau this November. Meanwhile, the Babyliss PRO Styling Master champion will receive P50,000 worth of products from Babyliss PRO and will represent the country at the Cosmoprof Asia 2011 in Hong Kong in November.

“Hair and Makeup Trends is always a much-awaited event among beauty artists. It’s a day for them to have fun with makeup, hairstyles, and costumes. They come up with the most impressive and extravagant styles. Every year, it’s one big party,” Ricky Reyes enthuses.

Aside from the competition, hourly seminars and demos will also be conducted. There will also be a trade exhibit showcasing new products and equipment from over 40 beauty companies.
