Lights, camera, fashion at the Shang
MANILA, Philippines - A blockbuster spectacle of trendy summer ensembles greeted kids, teens and their families as select brands unveiled the season’s hottest styles at Shangri-La Plaza’s summer fashion event.
Dubbed “Blockbuster Summer at the Shang,” this year’s event celebrated the merging of fashion and the movies with a lineup of activities that featured key looks inspired by upcoming Hollywood blockbusters. One of these was an exciting fashion installation that showcased looks styled by top stylist Eldz Mejia, demonstrating how key pieces work together to exude the feel of each Hollywood film.
Inspired by the vintage and romantic looks from Pirates of the Caribbean, Big and Small, Bayo and Kids of Bayo showcased how classic pieces can be updated to suit the young. Una Rosa demonstrated how casual wear can be turned into fashionably dressy ensembles.
The film HOP unleashed the rocker chic vibe from mainstream brands Bench, Bossini and Converse. The outfits were dominantly black, with touches of vibrant colors to add playfulness to the whole edgy, rock ‘n’ roll attitude.
Not to be missed were fashionably on-trend multi-looks from Maldita, Fletcher and The Row, all of which were inspired by the film Transformers. Ensembles honed in on the practicality of key wardrobe basics as they showcased how individual pieces can be worn in numerous ways.
The floral look, inspired by the movie Gnomeo and Juliet, was definitely in the summer zone as participating brands Kashieca, Gingersnaps, Periwinkle, and Debenhams featured feminine pieces in bold and bright prints that suited the season’s color palette.
Aside from classic summer florals, oriental and Asian prints inspired by the film Kung Fu Panda 2 took their place on the runway with outfits from Plains & Prints, Space, and PJ Sleepwear.
Zara, Human, Gap, Crossings Department Store and Orange Juice/ Spin took their fashion cues from the film Rio with pieces that spoke volumes of one the season’s latest trends — color blocking. Splashes of bright color filled the catwalk as each ensemble featured the creative mix-and-match of hues and shades fit for the summer season.
Finally, party wear shone in the spotlight as Folded & Hung and Rustan’s showcased a repertoire of style-savvy outfits perfect for that special occasion, with designs and looks that are reminiscent of the film Prom.
Hip brands Yhansy and No Curfew provided accessories and watches for the fashion show.
