Mega thrills with a Dorothy Perkins fashion makeover
MANILA, Philippines - “Beauty and fashion are not only about looking good but also about feeling good. It’s the whole package,” says 21-year-old Roxie Ilano. Thus, she was happy to be given a fashion makeover from Dorothy Perkins that made her look good and feel good.
Roxie was the grand prizewinner of the Mega magazine and Dorothy Perkins joint promotion called “Fashion Promo Page,” which ran for a month and a half. Fashion-forward females participated by simply tagging Mega magazine in their photo wearing their favorite Dorothy Perkins outfit with a caption on why they love their ensemble.
Roxie didn’t really need a major makeover, being an events officer and makeup artist who knows the importance of fashion and exuding one’s personal style. But she was more than happy about being pampered, made-up and styled wearing the hottest Dorothy Perkins pieces. She also received P25,000 worth of Dorothy Perkins gift certificates.
“I love the brand’s wide range of fashionable and incredibly feminine clothes for everyone, including those for both tall and petite women,” she said, “plus their accessories, intimate apparel and shoes.”
The Makeover
“I was expecting the stylist to simply inform me about fashion trends and show me Dorothy Perkins’ autumn-winter collection,” she said. Little did she know that she was up for a photo shoot and a fashion makeover.
“Her personal style and fashion choices proved that Roxie knows what she wants and knows a lot about fashion,” said freelance fashion stylist Ryuji Shiomitsu, pointing out Roxie’s black tube top from Dorothy Perkins and high tribal sarrouel pants. “This lady is not afraid at all to try on new things. That’s a plus.”
Ryuji chose charming pieces for Roxie’s hourglass body shape: “I opted for classic investment pieces that she can easily mix and match or incorporate with more trendy pieces.”
The mix included a beautiful day dress, suit jacket, leather jacket, denim jeans, dark skinny pants, dress pants and a sweater. Roxie and Ryuji included a peach pleated pearl dress, a blue check button blazer, black zip biker jacket, black super-skinny jeans and a cream bow knit jumper, suedette shorts and dark denim chambray to balance the classic pieces.
Internationally accredited Shu Uemura makeup artist Patrick Alcober did Roxie’s hair and makeup. He enhanced Roxie’s typical daywear makeup to a look that exuded a playful and youthful vibe.
Roxie said the whole experience improved her personal beauty and style quotient. “I was given the opportunity to expand my knowledge about clothes — what’s appropriate for my age and for specific occasions,” she said.
She also believes that her fun, fashionable and functional wardrobe is an extension of herself. And although she also likes trends, she admits she isn’t too keen about following them: “I have my own style and I usually pick one or two trendy items and I incorporate them into my wardrobe, mixing and matching old pieces with new ones,” she explained.
That’s why Dorothy Perkins is always top-of-mind for her. “I can wear their basic tees anywhere with just the perfect pair of heels and accessories and I’m good to go. There is no need to overdo dressing up. You just have to opt for pieces that you’re comfortable in and suit your body type and personality.
