How to be a makeup drama queen

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -

DEAR LUCY,

Please teach me how to do dramatic makeup. I do not have the desire or patience to go to a makeup artist every time I want to look extra beautiful. I just met this hunk of a man I want to keep charmed and we are going out at night a lot.

ALEXIS

Once you have flawless complexion, you pretty much have half the job done. For dramatic makeup, stick to sheer neutrals for skin and save the oomph for the lips and lashes. Use tinted moisturizer and skin-toned blush and dust lightly with loose powder. Chanel and Dior have the best loose powder, they are both so fine and are guaranteed to go on skin like silk. Rim the eyes with brown eyeliner smudged at the edges to soften the look and patiently pile on three, even four, layers of mascara on curled lashes. Fill lips with a red lipstick, blot, and only then should you line the lips gently and carefully with a lipliner. Blot after the first application, reapply, blot again, reapply yet again. Use a finishing powder for extra radiance: Bare Minerals’ Mineral Veil or Guerlain’s Meteorites Pearls. Enjoy your very new romance and may you keep him enchanted with your beauty for a long time to come!                                LUCY

You and eye cream dear rissa,

I’m 15 and worried about eye wrinkles. My older sister is only in college, but she already has lines on the corners of her eyes. Can I start using an eye cream already?

JADA

Yes, do start using an eye cream. The skin in the eye area has very few oil glands so it can dry out very quickly. When choosing an eye cream, be sure to choose one that is specially formulated for the eyes. Remember, the skin in the eye area is the thinnest and most delicate. Even your regular facial cream could be full of ingredients that could irritate this area.

Apart from making the eye cream part of your beauty routine, always treat your eye area with care. More than age, bad habits and careless abuse of the eye also have a lot to do with the lines that appear on the corner of the eyes. The eye area is really prone to fine lines and wrinkles, so it’s important not to overwork the area with constant squinting and rubbing. This also means not pulling the skin when applying and removing eye makeup and creams.

One of the best ways to protect your eye area from wrinkles is to choose an eye cream with UV protection. I like Pond’s Flawless White Light Infusing Under-eye Cream with Multiple UV Protection.

Also make it a must to wear a pair of sunglasses every time you go out. This way, you don’t subject your eyes to constant squinting and the aging effects of the sun.

HANDY TIPS ON HAND AND FOOT CARE

DEAR MS. TINGTING,

Hands are some of the most noticeable parts of the body.  Could you please give me tips on how to prevent premature aging of the hands and how about the feet?

ALLEEYA

No matter how many facial surgeries a man or woman has had, the hands tell a different story.  Here are some handy tips on caring for your hands:

• Whenever you wash your hands, wash with tepid water and a gentle cleanser.  You may even want to use a sensitive skin hand soap.

• Moisturize every time you wash your hands with a cream that contains urea.  It locks in water, moisturizing the hands.  Lactic acid keeps hands supple and prevents cracked nails.

• Keep cuticles from getting ragged by applying a tiny drop of baby oil or cream at least twice daily.  Only trim hangnails and thick skin near the nail.

As for your feet that could have bunions from age or improper shoes, here’s how you should take care of them:

• Once a week, smooth callused areas on your feet with a pumice stone or file them to even out and avoid chapped heels.  Dampen heels with water.  File in one direction.  Follow with a thick foot balm.

• Massage bunion inward with your thumb between the big and the next smaller toe to turn in bunions and see an orthopedic doctor to consult him on the proper bunion pads to order.
