Hermès calls on young designers

MANILA, Philippines - The Fondation d’enterprise Hermès (Hermès Corporate Foundation) invites young, professional designers from all over the world to join the 2nd Prix Émile Hermès 2011.

Held every three years, the Prix Émile Hermès aims to promote new, creative thinking in the applied arts and design from designers at pivotal stages in the development of their careers.

The international design competition is open to professional designers, graduates from schools of design, architecture, decorative arts, fine arts, or engineers; professional, non-graduate designers or engineers with at least three years’ proven experience in the field of design; and final-year students in masters programs at schools of design, industrial design, architecture and the visual, applied or decorative arts.

Entrants must be aged 40 years or under by Nov. 30, 2010. The members of the jury and the theme will be announced on Sept. 15, 2010, along with the call for entries for the award.

Prizes at stake are 50,000 euros, first prize; 25,000 euros, second prize; and 15,000 euros, third prizes.

Applications will be available online at prixemilehermes.com from Sept. 15 to Nov. 30. Submission of projects and designs (also online) will be held from Dec. 1 to Feb. 15, 2011. The jury will meet on mid-March 2011 to select the final shortlist. The finalists will be announced on March 21, 2011.
