Smells like fresh from the shower

LIFE'S A STRETCH - Raya Mananquil -

If most Filipinos average taking at least one shower a day, I average about three. Blame it on my overactive sweat glands. That, combined with the wrath of humid tropical summer just smells — I mean spells — utter mortification.

My overactive imagination makes me feel that my skin pores reek of either celery, patchouli,or even sweet Japanese curry.  I suppose there are worse things I could smell like, but I’m just glad I’m out of school and that raising my hand is no longer obligatory when having to speak.

I envy people who dare to leave their homes sans deodorant without offending anyone’s olfactory senses. My boyfriend is one of those freaks of nature because he can run a marathon, roll all over a garbage pile, not bathe the entire day and not even smell remotely offensive — all this without a dab of deodorant or cologne.

It’s interesting how a scent can be an acquired one; at least it is in my experience. I’ve heard foreigners say that Filipinos have a rather distinct smell that I myself can no longer detect. The same goes with my travels where I find myself wrinkling my nose in a crowd while everyone else walks on by.

However while one scent may be deemed desirable to some but repulsive to others, the general consensus is that a “just showered” smell is considered pleasant, and that’s why Rexona has developed a new range of Shower Clean anti-perspirant deodorants. Rexona Shower Clean’s formulation combines long-lasting sweat control and a fresh fragrance up to 24 hours — now that’s what I call the sweet smell of success.
