MANILA, Philippines - Prêt-à-porter in Paris could be the most anticipated fashion fair in the world — attracting the best designers around the globe. Last quarter, one of the Philippines’ most celebrated international designers, Dita Sandico Ong, showcased her vibrant-hued collection. She featured her signature wraps appliquéd with circular and spiral accents — lending the apparel a more “chi-chi” touch.

The French fashion critiques saw it as fresh, bold and refreshing. European fashionistas and buyers alike responded favorably to Mariposa, Dita’s version of the traditional panuelo which won the most applause.

One of Dita’s high-profile clients, Countess Marina Tenderes of Luxembourg, has only praise for her vibrantly colored wraps which can be worn in a variety of ways. The Countess, likewise, was delighted to come across her fabrics derived from the banana/abaca plant. She was also pleasantly surprised to know that Dita’s creations help support the local farmers, weavers and related communities. In fact, the Countess has invited Dita to hold her fashion event at her castle next year.

From the ramps of the City of Lights, Dita’s Black & White Spring/Summer Collection 2010 comes to her shop at 35 Wilson St., Greenhills.
