A cool way to work out
MANILA, Philippines - Keeping your body cool and dry are two of the most important factors in ensuring optimum performance during workouts.
Adidas ClimaCool, a new performance line, is specifically engineered to manage sweat and heat. ClimaCool is an integrated system of technologies that work together to regulate your body temperature better than any single-fabric technology.
ClimaCool apparel conducts heat and sweat away from the body through a combination of heat and moisture-dissipating materials, ventilation channels, and 3D fabrics.
How does ClimaCool work? Moisture-wicking fabrics transport moisture away from the body, keeping you cool and dry. Creating space between material and skin, the 3D fabric allows cool air to circulate close to the body. Featuring hundreds of small indents on the body side of the fabric, 3D fabric also pulls sweat in all directions — out of the body and across the surface of the garment.
The ClimaCool system also boasts X-Static (silver-coated fibers) that conducts heat away from the body.
Body mapping has been used to identify key sweat and heat-producing zones of the human body. By mapping the body’s critical sites, ClimaCool is placed exactly where it is needed to optimize body temperature.
Keeping your body cool is important in the practice of Bikram Yoga as the 90-minute session is done in a heated room (37 degrees Celsius). While other types of yoga focus on breathing, pace, or alignment, Bikram Yoga puts emphasis on heat and sweating when executing its sequence of 26 poses. High heat helps loosen muscles while sweat rids the body of toxins.
“Sweat is simply what happens when you take a Bikram Yoga class. The cleansing sweat is an indicator that you are getting the physical results out of yoga,” says Bikram Yoga instructor AJ Galang.
Born and raised in the US, AJ moved to the country to share his passion for Bikram Yoga with Filipinos.
Well, no matter how hot it gets, AJ is able to get into the most difficult of poses — from the crane pose to the irefly pose, both gravity-defying arm balances that improve core strength — with ease.
“The hot and cold effects of Adidas Climacool are conducive to yoga practice. It’s dangerous to stretch cold muscles so the warmth generated by the material makes it safe to do my poses. It also keeps me from overheating. I prefer working out in apparel that keeps my body temperature under control,” he explains.
