Fashionista is out, frugalista is in!

-

Everyone is feeling the blow of the economic crisis. People are tightening their belts, cutting back on spending, choosing to prioritize the most basic necessities. Does this spell the end of the fashionista era?

Preview magazine editor-in-chief Pauline Suaco-Juan says, “A true fashionista is able to reinvent her look using more or less her wardrobe staples and a couple of key pieces, accessories especially, from the new season.”

Say goodbye to the fashionista who spends excessively just to keep up with the trends. Choose to be the fashionista who uses her creativity to give existing pieces a new look, chooses to buy secondhand, wears eco-friendly and budget-friendly pieces — in short, be a frugalista.

The New Oxford American Dictionary defines the frugalista as “a person who lives a frugal lifestyle but stays fashionable and healthy by swapping clothes, buying secondhand, growing own produce, etc. This could become the nom de guerre of the ‘recession warrior.’”

Recession should not be an excuse for not being fashionable. Suaco-Juan says, “The best thing we at Preview can do is go on telling you not just the must-buy items, but also the most noteworthy trends and how to wear them.” That’s your cue to be inspired and put new looks together by checking out the Preview Trend Report for Spring-Summer 2009, and get 12 new ways to wear denim. Preview also gives you 20 beauty and style resolutions that will have you looking great even on a budget.

Kris Aquino returns to the cover of Preview wearing the season’s hottest trend: the little white dress. In these tough times, Kris says, “If you know you’ve been blessed, you have to find a way to bless others.” Read more on how Kris gives back during these tough times in the January-February issue of Preview, available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide.
