There are things you could surely count on at the onset of the Chinese New Year: the ubiquitous lion and dragon dance, ang pao — red packets and a spectacular Chinese New Year fete at the Heritage Hotel Manila. In the auspicious Year of the Earth Ox, more than 300 revelers from the diplomatic corps, corporate circle and media flocked to the Artists’ Ballroom for the toe-curling goodness of the Singaporean-inspired Yu Sheng Prosperity Toss, jaw-dropping production numbers and a Chinese-inspired fashion show designed by hot young designers of La Salle College International under the tutelage of fashion designers Danilo Franco and Gerry Katigbak.
To herald the Year of the Earth Ox Eddie Yeo, the Heritage Hotel’s general manager together with his spouse, Mary Yeo, Ambassador Aloy Ratnayake of Sri Lanka, Sadek Osman and Hadi Osman of Libya, Ambassador A. and Mary Selverajah of Singapore, Rosilawati Rasidi and Ambassador Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi of Malaysia led the ceremonial toss of the only authentic Yu Sheng Prosperity Salad. Participants from the power corridors of Manila gamely shouted “Lo Hei!” for wishes of abundance, good health and success in 2009.
