Fierce creatures at Folded & Hung
It’s always a pleasure to see local fashion labels triumph on home turf. With an influx of labels pouring in daily, it’s pretty tough to succeed in the highly competitive fashion world. Spanning a decade, the widely popular Folded & Hung brand has proven to be an anchor in the Philippine fashion scene, dressing youth in cool threads that echo style savvy. Paying homage to street style, Folded & Hung celebrated its 10th anniversary with an amazing runway show, “Streetcast Act 2,” which premiered the brand’s 2008 holiday collection under its collaboration with celebrated avant-garde designer Ivar Aseron.
In what turned out to be an amazing show, different themes were touched upon, all in full effect. There were segments that reflected funky school outfits, street punk style, Japanese carnival looks and futuristic rocker chic, all completely wearable and perfect for the party season.
Ladies sported festive frocks accessorized heavily with belts and layered looks over leggings. Who doesn’t love layers? Layering is so essential, especially in our country when you never know if the air conditioning will make you feel like you’re in Palin territory. Piling on layers in different textures in assorted fabrics adds dimensions to any ensemble. Light jackets were de rigueur and should be a staple in anyone’s wardrobe. While the color palette consisted mainly of dark hues especially in black, gunmetal and charcoals, prints were showcased in the form of checks and plaids. Bursts of color peeked through and when they did, they were in candy-colored shades of funky.
The urban look was demonstrated in an effortless way for men, with loads of jackets, vests and hoodies over T-shirts and button downs paired with jeans. Plaid was seen in many looks that gave off an urban, preppy futuristic vibe. Slim silhouettes prevailed so watch what you feast on during the holidays. Shades of gray towards the black end of the spectrum were what most of the men donned and some of the pieces will never go out of fashion.
Armed to the hilt with models, “Streetcast Act 2” featured over a hundred guys and gals strutting their stuff down the runway. While there were a few celebs sashaying their way, and some fellow STAR columnists, the bulk of the models had been selected from go-sees that Folded and Hung held over the past few months. Plucking non-models with personal panache from everyday life made it way easier to translate real street style to the runway, a reversal of tradition that usually dictates the fashion scene.
The Ivar Aseron collection for Folded & Hung will be available in December at select stores: SM Mall of Asia, TriNoma Mall, SM Megamall, The Block SM North Edsa, Shangri-La Mall, Glorietta, Robinsons Galleria and Eastwood Mall.
