All eye want for Christmas
Dear Rissa,
The holidays are coming up soon and as early as now, we’re already planning and booking our company Christmas party. It’s a big thing in our office. My family will also be having a big reunion in December. I’m really swamped with work and with all the Christmas shopping I still have to do, I don’t think I’ll find the time to shop for new outfits. So I was thinking idadaan ko nalang sa makeup! I want to try some shimmery eye makeup. Are there any products you can recommend? I hope it’s one that’s easy to apply because I’m not a makeup expert. Irene
Most women are confused and intimidated by makeup — especially eye makeup! Let me share one tip that always works for me when I put on my own eye makeup. I avoid dark and bold hues and stick to neutrals or light colors. Why? Because it’s hard to mess up. Even if it isn’t perfect, no one will be able to tell. For the longest time, I’ve been using Shu Uemura Pressed Eye Shadow in Me Sepia (available at Rustan’s). When you first see it, the color looks like a deep dark metallic brown, but once you apply it, the color is a flattering warm copper shimmer. Easy to apply and foolproof! Even when I’m in a rush or doing my makeup in the car, it’s a breeze to apply. Whenever I use this, I get complimented by makeup artists and stylists for my eye makeup. They probably think I took pains to do my eye makeup when all I had to do was sweep on this great color! I use this every day and it works for me for both day and night. The color intensity is great so even a little goes a long way.
For your holiday look, another must-try is the Bobbi Brown Limited Edition Copper Diamond Shimmer Brick (exclusively available at Rustan’s). I have to say that I had to rest my other eye shadow and I’m really loving this right now! This latest collection of eye shimmers introduces five different shades in one eye shadow palette — candlelight, gold, copper, beige, and sand. No matter what skin tone you have, it features so many irresistible shades that warm up the skin and at the same time give subtle, elegant highlights. I really love having five pretty shades of eye shadow in one compact because it lets you play around with your eye makeup and different moods. Allowing you to easily give your eyes that holiday sparkle even when you’re on the go, you can’t go wrong with this. I think this will be a great staple in your kikay kit for the holiday season. It’s perfect for a quick subtle but sophisticated holiday look. For a makeup rookie like you, sweeping a light shade on the entire lid is an easy way to add sparkle to your eyes. Clean and simple, a wash of color on the entire lid looks good on all eye shapes.
Here’s another tip: A light, frostier shade on the inner corner of the eyes helps bring them out. My last advice for the holiday shimmer look: Resist from going overboard with the shimmer and glitter. Don’t overdo it. You don’t want to look like an over-decorated Christmas tree! Remember, the goal is to call attention to your eyes, not your eye makeup! Good luck! And advance happy holidays! - Rissa

RX For Overplucked Brows
Dear Tingting,
Help! I totally overplucked my eyebrows. What should I do? Suzanne
Unfortunately, there is no Miracle-Gro for brow hair, you really have to wait. It takes about a month for brow hair to grow back. In the meantime, you can fill in sparse spots with brow powder or pencil. If you’re having trouble determining the right shape, you can try using a stencil. Use a white pencil to mark where you want your brow to begin and end, and then line up the stencil with the inner white mark and lay it over your brow. Use feathering strokes to apply brow powder or pencil to any sparse-looking areas with the stencil. Feathering strokes are used to mimic the look of individual hairs.
One alternative also would be tattooing. Your eye area may swell and feel slightly irritated for up to five days. It’s permanent, but it fades over time and needs to be retouched annually. Though results won’t look as natural as real brows, cosmetic tattooing is an option for women whose brows aren’t as thick as they’d like them to be. Tingting

Slippers That Fit To A T
Dear Lucy,
I read in one fashion magazine about a particular brand of slippers that supposedly tones the legs and butt. Is that true and what is the technology that makes it effective?
On another note, Halloween is coming up and I am wondering where I can have a Hannah Montana costume made for my daughter. And a High School Musical costume please?
Shaye
The brand of slippers you are talking about is called FitFlops. Because of the tapered, varying density midsole that practically creates a workout with every step, FitFlops promises to increase muscular tension to make the legs work harder. In effect, it is supposed to deliver the following results: improve core muscle strength; encourage better posture and stronger muscles; burn calories; help reduce cellulite; slim and tone the thighs and muscles in the legs; tone the stomach and back.
I have yet to use my pair so I don’t have a personal take on it just yet, but Wilma Doesnt swears by its effectivity. She has been using hers for over a month now and she says even her inner thighs are more toned now.
For costumes of any kind, the best person to go to is Regine Tolentino. She makes the best costumes, for kids and adults alike. Actually, even for regular clothes and gowns, she does a really a nice fit and stylish designs.
Call her for an appointment at 723-8289. Lucy
