The perfect swimsuit to get into the swim of things this summer
April 11, 2007 | 12:00am
Dear Rissa,
It’s summer and I plan to make the most of my vacation by hitting the beaches. I’ve been looking for a swimsuit that fits well. I’ve been going around the malls and have seen a lot. But what I’m looking for is something that still fits well, even if I do simple water activities like swimming or riding the banana boat. Most swimsuits have a lousy fit after I hit the water. They stretch and sag. Do you know where I can find a good fitting swimsuit? Also, I have sensitive skin and I easily burn. What’s a good product to help relieve and cool my skin after a day of sun?

It’s really hard to find a bikini that fits well. I love the beach and the water, but what kills all the fun is when my swimsuit turns loose and lousy after hitting the water. I recently discovered a brand of swimwear called Pualani. I wasn’t really looking to buy a new swimsuit, but when I saw it on display, I got attracted to the bikini designs they offered. So I tried a couple and ended up getting three bikinis! I swear, these are my best-fitting swimsuits ever. I just got back from a vacation where I went snorkeling in a marine park in Langkawi. I was pleasantly surprised my Pualani swimsuits didn’t fail me. I told the owners how much I loved the fit and discovered that Pualani is really well known for its "stay-up" quality. Imported from Hawaii, Pualani is known for its flattering styles without compromising function and durability. The Hawaiian owner, Iwalani Isbell, is a die-hard surfer and the swimsuits are actually tried and tested by surfer girls in Hawaii. So Pualani swimwear assures you that you look good and feel good in and out of the water. Unlike the usual two-way stretch Lycra, Pualani swimsuits feature a four-way stretch European fabric that ensures the swimwear will not lose its shape and fade after a few washings. What makes it comfortable is it uses ultra-soft lingerie lining which never stretches or peeks out. Also, the premium quality elastic in the bikini keeps your suit from riding up. Plus, it utilizes double-stitching for strength and durability. Apparently, the biggest advocate of the brand is Cameron Diaz who has been using the swimwear for years. She learned about the swimwear from her surfing instructor who happens to be a Pualani model. The newest celebrity seen buying the 2007 collection G.I. Jane camouflage design is Paris Hilton. You can find Pualani swimwear at Nothing But Water branches in Glorietta, Robinsons Galleria, and Alabang Town Center. You can also check out its website to view the collection: www.pualanihawaii.com.
For your sensitive skin, always make sure you use a high SPF sunblock especially when you hit the beach. The Body Shop recently came out with its aloe range (available at all The Body Shop stores nationwide), developed especially to soothe, protect, and minimize the reactions of sensitive skin. The complete aloe range is dermatologist-approved and clinically proven, making it the natural choice for sensitive skin.
For your face, try the Aloe Soothing Moisture Lotion SPF 15. It’s non-greasy, easily absorbed, and perfect for hydrating your sensitive skin. After a day of sun, The Body Shop has its Aloe Cooling Body Gel  a perfect after-sun care that will help ease the discomfort of sensitive skin. This is a great oil-free cooling gel that feels really good on the skin. At night, you should also hydrate your sunburned skin. Try the Aloe Soothing Body Lotion  it hydrates without the sticky feeling and calms the skin after being exposed to the sun.

Hi, Lucy!
I’m looking for fine jewelry, the investment type, the type that I see on Hollywood stars. But I do not want just diamond studs or classic pearl studs. I want something more embellished than that. My birthday is due soon and my husband told me I could take my pick.
Birthday Girl
I actually have three wonderful shops for you, take your pick from delicious designs that are timeless as they are elegantly beautiful. There is Jul B. Dizon Jewellery Salon at Shangri-La Edsa and Peninsula  they have excellent workmanship and their designs make the heart skip beats. For chunky Italian jewelry, try Roberto Coin at Rustan’s. I love their bracelets. And then there is Vanafi at the Podium  they have lines that are as lovely as lovely can get. If you buy jewelry, always go for quality over quantity. Even if your choices are few and far between, at least you accumulate pieces that you really like and that can withstand the test of time.

Dear Tingting,
I’m 24 years old and I had this allergy two weeks ago, which left mini scars on both of my legs. I’m using baby soap and a whitening lotion now. Hope you can advise me on the best soap or lotion to lighten and, if possible, get rid of my scars, but please suggest only the affordable ones.
Scarsgirl
You may try Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion or Nivea lotion  both are effective and cost less. Yes, baby soap is good too, try Ivory.
