Wide awake for the skin revolution
December 6, 2006 | 12:00am
The older we get, the more we need to pay attention to our skinthat is, if we wish to delay the aging process.
As we age, production of collagen and elastin slows down. External stresses such as UV rays and oxidation cause our skin to dry and lose its elasticity.
Leading Japanese cosmetics brand Awake likens our skin to a tree trunk, whose true age can be told underneath the surface, through its growth rings.
They believe its necessary to penetrate the skins layers in order to preserve its surface.
Awakes Sign Revolution acts not only on visible skin damage but also on hidden "growth rings" beneath the skin.
The regimen comes in six steps, so one has to be slightly O.C. (obsessive-compulsive) and serious about skin care.
Think Bree van de Kamp in Desperate Housewives. I know a couple of women who are so O.C., their bathroom and dressing tables look like laboratories with all their beauty products. They look great, by the way.
In the US, Awake is available at high-end stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Henri Bendel.
In Asia it is sold only in Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines.
So take advantage and check out this new range at Awake counters in Rustans Department Store.
Japanese women, known for beautiful skin, have known it all along. We can have young-looking skin longer by sticking with a serious regimen.
Step 1: CLEANSE (P2,250)
A gel-to-oil cleanser that melts on contact with skin to thoroughly remove makeup and impurities within the pores.
The clear gel comes in a big tube you can keep right on the sink. Apply a small amount to dry palms and gently massage over face in a circular motion. Rinse with water.
This gel doesnt remove eye makeup, so I suggest using eye makeup remover beforehand if necessary.
Step 2: WASH (P2,250)
A rich, foaming cleanser that gently removes impurities. Comes in a convenient pump bottle you can keep right on the sink next to the cleanser. Take a small amount on palms, lather and massage gently over face. Rinse.
I like its clean, subtle smell.
Step 3: MOISTURIZING TONER (P3,450)
A moisturizing toner that penetrates skin to provide deep hydration and protection from roughness and dryness.
Leave it on your dressing table. Use with cotton pad and pat lightly on clean skin.
Step 4: FLUID (P3,750)
A milky, hydrating and softening emulsion that protects against environmental factors. Use with cotton pad and sweep over face in circular motion.
Step 5: CREAM (P4,950)
Enhances skins moisture retention to protect from dryness and promote a supple, healthy complexion.
Because its a thick cream, apply small amounts all over face night or day.
Step 6: EYE CREAM (P3,950)
Provides a protective veil over the fragile skin of the eyes. Apply this last, day or night, after all treatment products.
Take a small amount on spatula or fingertips and apply gently around eye area.
