Wanted: A one-stop beauty clinic

STYLE S.O.S. - Tingting Cojuangco -
Dear Tingting,

I want a one-stop beauty clinic I can go to. Could you tell me where? – Olga

The Belo Medical Group. Once an exercise instructor when I first met her, Vicki Belo sets the tone for her company. She’s a workaholic and keeps herself always abreast of the latest in beauty technology through seminars and training abroad. Touching the corner of someone’s eyes, she suggests, "First, try Thermage to tighten your skin. It heats up the collagen inside the skin’s deep layers, smoothing out wrinkles. There’s a jet peel that uses oxygen to create an exfoliating, gentle peeling for the complexion."

Services are found in Vicki’s brochures. Once a two-page overleaf, it is now four leaves with 45 various treatments. The latest, the V-Beam, removes red scars. It’s a new laser treatment, introduced only a few weeks ago at the Medical Plaza branch of the Belo Medical Group.

Those who are probably jealous of Vicki’s success have criticized her for advertising beauty remedies for nature’s defects and to defy the curse of time. But there’s no stopping Vicki and her very competent team of male and female doctors – and certainly not her throngs of patients who walk endlessly into her clinics.

Her doctors? Well, I can mention a few of them. There’s Maricar Cruz, who’s got a good sense of humor and is generous in spirit. She’s my vein sclerotherapist and injects bethoxysclerol for my veins to collapse and disappear. She does laser for tattoo removal, too, among other things.

There’s also Dr. Rhea Flores, who’s young and has a good eye for symmetry. She works in the Greenhills branch of the Belo Medical Group. She does Aptos, the thread facelift that lifts the jaws, cheeks, eyebrows, and neck. She performs lipo or whatever a patient may need, like Dr. Jun Caparas who’s always on the go and is just a cell phone away.

The smallest and cutest of them all is Dr. Eloisa Buse, who’s cool and friendly, and always willing and able to assist. She does multi-beauty remedies on the ninth floor of the Belo branch in Makati, which has expanded its clinic space.

Call the Belo main clinic in Makati at 817-7178, 817-9283 or 0917-8398182. Visit the clinic at Suite 901 Medical Plaza, Amorsolo corner dela Rosa Sts., Legaspi Village, Makati City. Log on to www.belomed.com. – Tingting

Fright (Prom) Night
Hi, Lucy!

I’m 16 and from an exclusive girls’ school. I will be attending our prom in March, and have been invited to another school prom in February. I was just wondering if you could help me find a school that would teach me how to walk properly in a gown. I am flat-footed and it seems I will be having a hard time walking in three-inch shoes. Will there be enough time for me to learn all the basics from now until February 2006? – Prom Dilemma

If I were you, I would not enroll in a school anymore. You can practice as much as you want in the privacy of your own home, from now until February. If you are not comfortable wearing three-inch heels, you can settle for a pair that is two to two-and-a-half inches high. The trick is to choose heels that are skinny so they look sleek and sexy. Do not let the thought of wearing high heels intimidate you. I think a woman walks naturally better and sexier in heels. As for your being flat-footed, that should not limit you either. All it takes is practice. Walking in high heels is nothing that cannot be learned. Good posture is important also so make sure you don’t slouch and maybe you can practice walking with a book balanced on your head. I wish you the best. – Lucy

Do Or Diet
Dear Tita Mary,

I just want to ask for some suggestions on how to start a diet habit. – Diet-Conscious

Look for the South Beach Diet book, by Dr. Arthur Agatston, recommended by doctors as the healthiest diet plan today. It contains recipes and menus you can follow. Always combine your dieting with exercise, as this is the only way the weight will come off quickly and stay off. – Mary
