Ooh la la, its La Mer!

Dear Tita Mary,
I recently turned 30 and during one of my monthly dates with my girlfriends, we talked about skin care. As far as I can remember, the only skincare regimen Ive ever had is Dove in cold weather and Cetaphil during hot, humid days. In the morning, I just put on eye cream and sunscreen (SPF 60). My girlfriends say that I need to start putting on moisturizer to prevent wrinkles and dryness of the skin. Is this true? I have combination skin. Ive tried moisturizers before, but my skin was always breaking out. And to have to apply it every morning is very tedious and requires enormous discipline. Do you have any cheap moisturizer suggestions? Do I put it over or under my sunscreen?
Ive also read about Creme de la Mer. They say it does wonders. How expensive and effective is this and where can I buy it locally? Im thinking of giving it to my mom for her upcoming birthday.

One really has to moisturize constantly, which means day and night. If your skin breaks out when you moisturize, try finding an anti-allergenic moisturizer. I know of an excellent moisturizer, Neutrogena, which already has a sunblock and is very mild to use. Also, try Clarins, which is more expensive but worth it.
The cosmetics/perfumery section of Rustans carries La Mer Creme, touted around the world as the miraculous moisturizing cream. Celebrities like Sharon Stone, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and Victoria Beckham swear by it. Actually, it was developed by aerospace physicist Max Huber who suffered serious burns in his face and eyes while working with rocket fuels. Its main ingredient is sea kelp, which has excellent healing properties, and Huber added natural ingredients like calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, vitamins C, D, E and B12, and extracts from sunflower, alfalfa, wheatgerm, and citrus. At Rustans, a 2 oz. jar of Creme de la Mer costs P5,000.

Dear Lucy,
I am really bothered by my whiteheads. Please tell me how to get rid of them without having to go to an expensive derm clinic. What are whiteheads and how do they affect the skin?
Whitehead Lady
Whiteheads and blackheads are the irritating results of clogged pores. Yes, theres a way to remove whiteheads without going to a dermatologist. If youre brave enough and you want to throw caution to the wind, you can extract them yourself by squeezing. However, you run the risk of scarring as well as infecting it and that becomes an even bigger problem. If I were you, I would really go to a dermatologist because they have the tools and the know-how to address your problem. Why risk it?
