Wrist watch
June 8, 2005 | 12:00am
You can tell a mans personality by the watch he wears (even a bare wrist says a lot). Since men are not as bauble-friendly as women, and dont necessarily need to know the latest drop-earring fashion or the newest trend in cuff bracelets, the only piece of jewelry they really bother with is a wristwatch.
If youve gone wristwatch-shopping with a man, youd know that it takes them as much time to purchase a watch as it does us women to find the perfect pair of strappy stilettos to go with our new flouncy animal-print frock, which usually amounts to forever and a day. Watches for men are more than just wrist candy. Watches are pieces that fit into their entire personality puzzle. These are eloquent indications of their sense of style. Watches serve as the only similarity to an A-class Hollywood actor that they can boast of. For a lot of men, its an investment piece, something to pass on to a graduating son, along with a nostalgic speech on the merits of hard work.
The standards for the perfect watch usually begin with make and material, moving on to features, the color of the strap, the spirit it evokes, the clothes he can wear it with, and the length of time he can get away wearing it. The time-telling market offers so many options that a man can go insane trying to look for that one perfect wristwatch.
To narrow down the search, here are some of the more established shops in the retail scene, which offer a varied array of watch brands and styles:
Technomarine, famous for its aqua-loving timepieces, has choices both for diving and on-land time-telling. The male watch hunter can choose from among Swiss-made, water-resistant tickers that come in PVC, gel, or leather straps. The brand also recently hooked up with Marvel comics to come up with a series of collectibles featuring Marvel superheroes Silver Surfer, Incredible Hulk, The Thing, and Spider-man on the faces of the timepieces.
L Time Studio is a haven for watches by some of the fashion industrys most celebrated design houses, including fun and eclectic watches by DKNY, quirky, trend-oriented watches from Fossil, Diesels radical innovative samples, and elegantly classic wristwatches by Emporio Armani.
The watch industrys most luxurious brands can be found at Alexis premier names such as Cartier, Baume & Mercier, and Frederique Constant come with an investment-worthy price tag and a legacy you can pass on to succeeding generations.
A watch purchase, to a male connoisseur, doesnt remain singular. A man can have many watches to cover his entire wardrobe, or the members in his subsequent family tree. A watch collection to a man can be akin to the assortment of shoes in a womans closet. Give him flak about it and it only pushes him to buy more.
