Catwoman and fashion cat-astrophes on TV
August 4, 2004 | 12:00am
"Catwoman was a cat-astrophe," a fashionista screams, "because it didnt show much of a purr-fect wardrobe ... Just kidding, it was purr-ty cute!"
Well, fashion watchers may want to know that during the Hollywood premiere of this superheroine flick, the gorgeous Halle Berry stepped out of her limo in a colorful empire-cut low-neck baby-doll silk flowing dress with embroidered trimmings. Her long brown locks matched her sultry aura. And Berry was holding a "Keeper" bag from the fall-winter 2004 collection of Tods. A press release issued by Stores Specialists Inc., distributor of Tods in the Philippines, describes it as a crocodile skin purse in green, What, nothing furry for Catwoman?
It apparently was a Tods Day, too, for the beautiful Sharon Stone, when she was spotted separately in New York in a very casual getup. Her accessory? A Tods Ravello bag in Biscotto leather, also from the fall-winter 2004 collection.
Tods is located at Greenbelt 4 in Ayala Center, Makati. Among Tods diehards in Manila is woman of style, STAR fashion and beauty columnist Lucy Torres-Gomez.
There should be a fashion police in TV stations telling newsreaders to dress properly.
The bad news is that some newsreaders are over-bejewelled, their bling-blings, whether fake or real, sometimes are too blinding.
A single strand of pearl is okay. But if you add another, plus a pair of huge chandelier earrings, you seem to be saying that you want to be in the news as well ... as one of TVs Most Overdressed Newscasters.
Believe it or not, some newsreaders-talk show hosts, while interviewing politicians on the days current issues, have the temerity to bare their cleavage in supposedly no-nonsense programs. Are they aching to replace Rosanna Roces in a showbiz show and their bosses havent discovered their bare assets? Why, one TV host even wore a tube top! Thats eye-candy for a slim host like Pia Guanio in a showbiz program, but disaster for a voluptuous host with a 38-inch bust in a non-showbiz talk show.
Among TV newsreaders, those who obviously know their fashion dos and donts are Karen Davila and Vicky Morales who consistently look good on TV. Korina Sanchez has developed her own fashion identity bordering on the colorful and never boring, as befits her personality. Ces Drilon is adventurous, sometimes a tad too adventurous, but we forgive her, given her slim figure and (possibly) some influence from her sister model Joyce Oreña.
Ali Sotto, to her credit, is trying her best to look very corporate and make us forget shes an actress-comedienne when she delivers the news.
The paradigm of restraint and no-nonsense is still Tina Monzon-Palma. Her best accessory is her smooth delivery, and best diction of them all. Millet Mananquil
