What a blast!

my LIPS are SEALED… sometimes… - Maurice Arcache -
A gorgeous full moon ago, dahlings, was a special time for the special personas of the Chamber of Pawnbrokers of the Philippines Inc. The group marked its 56th anniversary and the induction of its newly-elected mega officers and magnum directors at that grand lady by the bay, the Manila Hotel.

This year’s directors, palanggas, are men and women who are not only well-known in the pawnshop industry, but also in the banking, hotel and restaurant, fishing, advertising, printing, basketball team management, business and socio-civic fields. They also include top-notch lawyers.

Its tres dedicated president, well-respected and popular gentleman, Luis Ablaza Jr. of the famous Ablaza Pawnshop, is now in his fourth term. The new set of officers and directors were officially inducted by Ricardo Lirio, managing director of the Department of Thrift Bank and Non-Bank Financial Institution of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Lawyers Henry Villarica of Villarica Pawnshop is the vice president for internal affairs; Jean Henri Lhuillier of the hard-to-beat Cebuana Lhuillier is the vice president for external affairs; lawyer Divinagracia Ongkeko of 8’8 Pawnshop is the corporate secretary; lawyer Pablo Magno of A.B. Magno Pawnshop is the legal counsel; Isabel Abella of Abella Pawnshop is the treasurer; Lina Picache-Enriquez of C.M. A flamenco dance was performed by pawnbroker and vivacious socialite Teresita Tambunting-Liboro, Ofelita Manlapit and Cecile de Joya. A modern waltz was then performed by pawnbroker Lina Gison and her partner. Both Teresita L. and Lina G. were a sight to behold while taking their bows.

The night saw the chi-chi guests letting their hair down with their pals. The ambiance was great and the menu was excellent, palanggas. But the real fun began with the non-stop music of the Nonoy Lopez Band, natch (!) which continued until the guests nearly dropped.

Cooking it up for a cause
A foundation has finally been established, dahlings, to turn our young kitchen talents into professional chefs and to come up with an ingenious way to raise scholarship funds. In its grand debut, the Culinary Education Foundation (CEF) treated some 200 friends and supporters to a super evening of culinary adventure and musical performances prepared by the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA), Manille, where all aspiring chefs can fulfill their dreams–if the foundation has its way. The CEF was established by Cravings Group founder and mega president, a grand gourmand herself Susana Guerrero, to provide deserving young students with a professional culinary education that would make them world-class chefs. A toasted bread ring drizzled with smoked fish vinaigrette and kesong puti stuffed with arugula and frissee. The soup was Shrimp Mousse Ravioli in Tinola Consomme while the entree was called Surf ’n Turf CCA Style, a delightful dish of pan seared beef and fish fillet with coconut cream gabi leaves and garlic rice pilaf.
