Glam ghouls, witches and wizards

my LIPS are SEALED… sometimes… - Maurice Arcache -
Judging from the fantastic sights and sounds alone, dahlings, Glorietta’s "Witches and Wizards Ball" was undoubtedly the biggest Halloween bash in years.

When moi received an invite from super achiever Rowena Tomeldan of Ayala and the indefatigable Susan Joven to be one of the judges for the Best Costume, moi accepted without batting an eyelash, natch, because moi knew it was going to be fun. Guess what? The shindig didn’t turn out to be just fun, dahlings, it was absolutely hilarious!

The world-class Ayala Center’s "Witches and Wizards Ball" attracted personas dressed as unforgettable characters like Lara Croft; Peter Pan; Pocahontas; Tibetan monks; pirates; brides (both dead and alive); Tinkerbell; and, naturellement, that super wizard of the moment, Harry Potter.

Manille’s hip and happening pack strutted their creative streak and came in full costumed-force at the Glorietta Activity Center. The Center was transformed by design wizard Junjun Ablaza into a mystical "nowhere," complete with faux maple trees and candelabras lining the whole stage. It could have been a visual delight straight out of Halloween 2, Fright Night 3 and the Adams Family Values, dahlings. A humongous gothic window onstage heightened the "Clockwork Orange" collection from fashion label Warp unveiled before the bewitching hour of midnight.

The highlight of the ghoulishy glam- orous bash, palanggas, was the competition among the creative costumed guests for the grand prize – a trip to Paris, no less. Outrageousness was the competition’s dress code. Wendy Puyat was Josie without her Pussycats. Tim Yap, the "eventologist" behind it all, came as Peter Pan, flying from the ceiling and hoping the cords wouldn’t snap. Patrick Reyno came as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. New model Lucke Mucklin came as Dracula; Rachel Alejandro as Lara Croft; and designer sisters Juliet and Mimi Tan as Christina Aguilera in the Moulin Rouge video and Hiawatha, respectively.

Top model Derek Ramsey wore a trendy babe’s outfit of fuchsia tank and printed skirt with his eye-catching navel hair in full view. Angelo Villanueva came as a fashion victim with his own tomb; Lyn Ching came as a nun; and stylish Jenni Epperson as Harry Potter.

Meanwhile, the Ayala rah! rah! gang came in full force as vampires, magicians, nymphs, fairies and Cruellas, led by Miriam Katigbak; Rowena Tomeldan; Winnie Nazareth; Dave Rafael; CJ Jesena; Cathy Bengzon; Donna Ramos; Pinky Abad; Pattie Javier; and Grace Barbers.

Others who attempted to win the free Eva Air trip to Paris included beauty contestants complete with sashes; gypsies; Kiss band wannabes; angels; Poison Ivy; Christopher Columbus; hippies; plus so many others in equally creative costumes.

The one who got the judges’ cumulative nod was a man who came as "Octopus Anthrax!" with tentacles galore. The Bench award went to Mata Sa Dilim; the Globe award to Taong Basura; while the Gift Gate award went to good-looking Brad Turvey who was the most handsome of knights!

Tessa Prieto-Valdes
came as the fabulous non-singing Canary wrapped in yards and yards of yellow tulle by Rajo Laurel (but who else, dahlings). She was one of the judges alongside Inno Sotto, Virgie Ramos, Ben Chan, Francis Lumen and moi.

The event was hosted by MTV’s fabulous tandem of Mr. Swoon Boy KC Montero and any tomcat’s dream gal, Belinda Panelo. The event thumped with great dance music from start to finish, thanks to the skillfull spinmeisters in the sound booth led by DJ Ian Elliott (a.k.a. Harmonika).

All these, palanggas, were made possible by the brilliant movers and shakers of Ayala Land, Inc., MTV Philippines, myGlobe and other supporters like the popular Eva Air, Granny Goose Tortillos, Nescafe Frothé, Knottsberry Fruittee Iced Tea, TGI Friday’s, Whereelse, San Miguel Beer, Teen Magazine, Get Asia.com and PR "wonder woman" Susan Joven’s Visions & Expressions which took charge of the great publicity.

Ayala Land, palanggas, has indeed found its niche as a premier entertainment hub in Cosmo Manille. Aside from the cinemas and dining choices, it always organizes super events that create the loudest buzz among party-goers.

The Glorietta Halloween party set was definitely one of the best, if not the best, witch-y bash of ghostly personas, dahlings, moi ever saw. And believe me, moi has seen a lot, just like I did when I dashed to downtown Malate, where the action was in full blast at Havana where people were pouring out into the streets.

Moi
also zoomed in on more ghoulish personas at the jam-packed NBC Tent, and Planet of Love, and finally, in some of my friends’ homes where moi stayed until the first rays of light crept out on the horizon. This sent me rushing back to my bed before moi turned to ashes!

And where did you spend your witch-y night palanggas?

Smile and see you.
