A night to cherish forever

my LIPS are SEALED… sometimes… - Maurice Arcache -
Cosmo Manille society beheld a lovely Cleopatra Maack, dahlings, when she celebrated her grand debut at the Hyatt Hotel’s ballroom.

Many people mistook Cleopatra, whose makeup and hairdo were done by the Hyatt Beauty Salon, for MTV VJ Donita Rose.

As she prepared to dress up at a Hyatt Hotel suite she shared with her parents, vivacious former Manille socialite, Carmencita Hernandez Maack and German international businessman Peter Maack, that photo favorite for decades now, dahlings, Bob’s Studio, took photos and video shots.

Cleopatra’s ball gown and that of her mother, as well as Peter M.’s barong tagalog, dahlings, were created by Asia’s Fashion Czar Pitoy Moreno, no less, who has been a close pal of Carmencita for years. Pitoy M. himself did Cleo’s white and silver hand-made appliqués.

The grand debut started at 7 p.m. with Cleo, Carmencita and Peter M. welcoming the guests, palanggas, at the reception line. Each guest received a souvenir photo of Cleo. They were then led to the Reception Room adjacent to the ballroom for cocktails. Cleo stayed at the reception lounge together with her parents until 8:15 in the evening, when the guests were led to the ballroom for the excellently prepared dinner.

The Philippine National Anthem was played before dinner and apres, the German National Anthem. Aileen Payumo led the Philippine National Anthem. Michelle Cawad, a cousin of Cleo who is a product manager of Unilever based in Bangkok, gave short invocation. She also emceed the program.

Cleo sat at the presidential table with her gang of nine girlfriends. Two young ladies from Germany had come to Manille with Cleo and her parents before Cleo’s debut, but flew quickly back to Hamburg because their parents were terrified by the bombings that occurred in Manille.

During dinner, palanggas, Peter gave a toast for his daughter, apres which Cleo cut the cake. When the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra started playing the Blue Danube, Peter presented his daughter with 18 roses and then waltzed with her.

Before this, Cleo had delivered an impromptu speech acknowledging the presence of her guests. She singled out her aunt, Dr. Uko Legarda Nelson, who came from Australia on that night just to attend Cleo’s debut.

Apres
waltzing with her father, palanggas, Cleo danced with Uko Legarda’s sons Andro and Miguel; Pit Legarda Montinola’s son; plus other sons of Carmencita H.- M.’s pals.

Joining the beautiful young set were Tessa Legarda and brother Alex Legarda; Raffy, Raquel and Rina Montemayor, children of Jess and Sylvia Montemayor; Tess Prudencio; Aileen and Alexis Payumo, the children of Subic Bay’s Daisy and Tong Payumo; the son of Rep. Joaquin Chipeco; the son of Bibs Lesaca; the sons of Eddie, Benny and Joselito Legarda; Monica, Tattoo and Guiseppi, the children of Monette Legarda; Andre and Francis Kahn, the children of Rosarito Legarda Kahn; and the children of Marian Legarda.

Cleo changed into another Pitoy Moreno creation apres the waltz. She wore a baby blue midi dress of chantilly lace which was similar to her mother’s. Its material was bought in Germany.

The more "mature" moneyed invitees were hotshots like Dr. Daniel Vazquez who came with his son and daughter-in-law, Juan Miguel and Judith Duwavit Vazquez; Charito and Pepito Legarda; Gen. Manuel Yan, who is the uncle of Carmencita M. and his wife Edoy Fernandez Yan; Ambassador Bienvenido and Emma Tan; businessman Tonette Lagdameo; popular gentleman, Sen. Jun Magsaysay and his wife, that lady with the four B’s (as in, beauty, brains, breeding and bucks) Marilou Kahn-M.; Ching ang Ramon Legarda; Mercy and Boy Legarda; Chiqui and Fritz Server; Wilkie and Nena Barretto Ong; jetsetting businesswoman Chingbee Kalaw; Lilia Henson Cruz and husband Danny Cruz; Vina and Luis Concepcion; ballroom Dance Empress Becky Garcia and her tres charmant Henry Muzzarelli; busy-busy couple and mega achievers, fashionable MaryAnn Ojeda (who sported a new short hair style) and tycoon Francis Lumen; Chinggay and Bimbo Guerrero; Undersecretary Franklin Ebdalin and his wife Cory Yulo-E.; Rep. Joaquin Chipeco; Bibs Lesaca; a super pal of the debutante’s mother from way back, Conchitina Sevilla Bernardo; Rudy and Nora Robles; Carmencita’s cousin Leny Cawad and her daughters, Marilen from GMA, Michelle, Monique and Lea; Dorian and Sofia Chua, the owners of Aloha Hotel and Sunshine Tours; Carmencita’s accountant, Adiel and Sammy Arellano; Angie Fernandez and husband Badong Rodriguez; Catha and Michelle Server with brothers two, Joey and Topsy Server; Cynthia Cortes and her boyfriend from Deutsche Bank, Makati; Vicki and Hans Schmid; Vicky Asaad and Tricy Legarda; plus so many more namedroppables like them, dahlings.

Cleo thanked her parents for making the wonderful debut possible. She paid a special tribute to her departed maternal grandmother, Doña Consolacion "Nena" Hernandez, who would have been happy to be attending her debut.

Upon Doña Nena’s death, Carmencita had sent Cleo to the Robert Louis Stevenson School, a boarding school in Pebble Beach California, dahlings, where Cleo graduated from high school last year. Cleo had made some Filipino pals while studying there, one of them Chris Palanca, the son of Honey Boy Palanca. A friendship began between Cleo and the Palanca famille including Johna Palanca Casiño.

Cleo is now studying Communications at the Pace University in New York. She intends to take up her Masters Degree in USA too apres college. She intends to live and work in the States, too.

It was a definitely a night to cherish forever for our debutante Cleopatra.

Cheers, palangga!
