Meralco Powerlab inaugurated

MANILA, Philippines - Meralco recently inaugurated POWERLAB, its facility to anchor its energy efficiency campaigns. It will test appliances on the peso cost per use and answer consumer questions – how much electricity does it cost to use an LED TV versus an ordinary TV? An inverter aircon or ref versus an ordinary aircon? Are energy-saving devices sold in hardware stores really effective? Meralco POWERLAB is also a showcase of new technologies like the home area network that allows you to control appliances remotely and see your consumption in real time.

Gracing the inauguration were Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla, ERC chairman Zenaida Ducut, Metro Pacific and Meralco chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, and Meralco president Oscar Reyes. In his speech, Sec. Petilla praised Meralco for the initiative, noting that energy efficiency is of national importance given the country’s energy situation.
