CEMEX partners with government in greening initiatives

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – In line with its thrust of helping foster environmental stewardship and sustainable development within and outside its operations, eco-labeled cement brand manufacturer Cemex Philippines recently partnered with the Provincial Government of Rizal for the joint undertaking of cleaning and greening initiatives in the area.

The said partnership was reinforced by Cemex Philippines’ participation in various tree-planting activities spearheaded by Rizal Governor Nini Ynares through the YES (Ynares Eco System) to Green Program.

The tree-planting activities were held in Tanay, Teresa and Antipolo, together with the respective local government units in the area.  Additionally, river cleanups have also been organized in Morong, Teresa and Antipolo with the help of the cement company’s HERO (Help. Engage. Reach. Out) employee volunteers.

Cemex’s HERO program forms part of its “Build Volunteerism” project, which encourages its employees to invest time and effort in its various corporate social responsibility undertakings. It has since become an integral part of the company’s culture that sees employees spending time in various worthwhile activities such as disaster relief operations, safety education, community outreach, and many others.

Barangay San Jose, where Cemex’s Solid Cement Plant is located, was recognized as Cleanest and Greenest Barangay in Antipolo City. Meanwhile, Antipolo City won the Cleanest River and the Greenest Municipality awards in the provincial category. Finally, Teresa, where Cemex collaborated with the LGU in the river cleanup drive, was hailed the Cleanest Municipality in Rizal.

What may perhaps be considered the secret to the success of the cement company’s HERO program is the support of its HERO employee volunteers and their families. Solid Ladies Club, an established organization of the wives of the male employees at Cemex’ Solid Cement Plant in Antipolo City, participated in the abovementioned tree-planting and river-cleanup activities.

Cemex Philippines is the manufacturer of eco-labeled cement brands in the country including Island Portland Cement, Palitada King, Rizal Portland Super, Rizal Masonry Cement, APO Portland Premium, APO Portland Cement, APO Masonry Cement, and APO Pozzolan.
