Victory Liner goes on the road for medical mission in Tarlac

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Northern Luzon bus company Victory Liner recently completed a different kind of journey —a trip to bring much-needed medical care to people in far-flung communities in Tarlac.

Through its corporate social responsibility arm, the  Doña Marta T. Hernandez Foundation, Victory Liner provided free medical check-up, flu vaccines, and medical supplies to the residents of three Gawad Kalinga villages in Tarlac, namely Sapang Maragul, Tibagan and Gerona.

The foundation worked together with Rotary Club of Midtown Tarlac and Gawad Kalinga to give free medical consultation and other services to community members, comprising mostly youth and women. Apart from volunteers from the said organizations, volunteer physicians and nurses also came in to provide medical diagnosis, administer injections, and distribute free vitamins and medicine for common ailments..  The Doña Marta T. Hernandez Foundation also partnered with MyHealth clinic for the distribution.

“Our goal is to help the underserved communities we encounter along our bus routes. This is our way of helping and thanking these communities,” says Vernie Abcede, who manages the foundation. Doña Marta is the wife of Victory Liner founder and patriarch, Jose Isaac Hernandez.

Now in its 16th year, the Doña Marta T. Hernandez Foundation continues with its tradition of service, guided by Victory Liner’s line of business — one that connects communities, moves people from one destination to another safely and comfortably, and improves the lives of its passenger families and children. Since its inception, the foundation has always focused on programs aimed at creating lasting, positive changes to the lives of the communities it serves.

“We have more than a dozen projects in a year geared towards education, health and entrepreneurship. For 2013 and onwards, we want to pursue projects with long-term effects for our beneficiaries along the route of Victory Liner,” affirms Abcede.
