Rajo Laurel designs uniforms for Informatics College
MANILA, Philippines - School uniforms have never been known to push the envelope of style; but one school finally dared to tread that fine line between function and aesthetics.
Informatics College, a Singapore-based IT institution, tapped designer Rajo Laurel of the House of Laurel to create a collegiate ensemble that reflects the school’s international roots and youthful vibe. The result was a modern take on a classic look that ensures comfort and practicality for students.
“It’s a balance between style and function. We wanted to create something as cool and as relaxed as we possibly can,†Rajo explains.
This new version of the Informatics uniform, which will be launched in the coming semester, has a blue and white palette, and bears simple and streamlined elements that best express utilitarian style.
The look harks back to Rajo’s personal style. As a designer, he has always been known to inject his personality into his creations.
“I always make my work personal. I ask myself if I would be happy if I wore this or if I would let my sisters wear it,†he says.
Inspired by the preppy vibe featuring a sweater and a crisp, white shirt, Rajo found a way to recreate the look to make it more functional given the country’s tropical weather. Embroidered with the gray trademark school emblem, the shirt and sweater are paired with dark pants.
“It had to be fashionable but functional at the same time. Most of all, it had to be simple enough that an individual’s personal style can still shine through,†Rajo adds.
