23-year-old puts up a Binalot franchise
MANILA, Philippines - In the world of business, it’s a free market when it comes to building wealth. It is especially wise for younger adults to invest in a business early on and get a head start. Such is the case for Binalot franchisee Paul Castellano, a 23-year-old young professional who worked in an IT company before finally deciding to help out with the family business –– an old canteen in Makati. After a while, Castellano’s family started looking for a new business to replace the old canteen. They were looking for a franchise that offered good value for their money, something that was within the budget and already had enough exposure in the market.
“We called up Binalot Fiesta Foods Inc. (BFFI) to inquire and it didn’t take much time to get the business running. We opened in December last year at Robinson’s Metro East, Pasig City,” Paul recalls. The store’s location is perfect since there wasn’t a restaurant in the mall that offered affordable Filipino food. It also helps that Robinsons Metro East is a quick 10- to 15-minute ride from their house or their gas station business, as this allows Paul to monitor daily operations.
“It’s a good brand with a great line up of products that people would always avail. We were convinced of the brand’s potential to grow into one of the big brands out there in the food industry,” he says.
A certified foodie himself, Paul admits to being fond of Binalot’s consistent bestseller, Tapa Rap Sarap. “Hands down, it’s my absolute favorite. Believe it or not, I had no idea how to cook before we started Binalot. It has helped develop my people skills and my management skills, as well. I have learned to deal with things on my own and set my priorities. That may not sound like much, but it means the world for a 23-year-old guy,” he shares. He hopes to turn the “little store” into something a little bigger in three to five years.
