Find your edge in the workplace

- The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines - Simply thriving in the workplace is relatively easy; standing out in a sea of many other ambitious colleagues is another story altogether. And though it is your dream to get noticed for your hard work and contributions, it is not something that can easily be realized when you are surrounded by other people who are as driven as you are. How can you make an impact that will impress your bosses and make you an invaluable asset to the company?

This is where John Robert Powers (JRP) comes in.  With its lifelong mission to help individuals achieve their maximum potential, the training institute has designed a comprehensive curriculum for executives called “The Advanced Executive Program.” The goal of the program is to make people positively stand out in the workplace by capitalizing on their distinct skill sets and unique personalities.

Marivic Padilla-Catala, JRP’s international director, shares, “Feeling like a ‘small fish in a big pond’ is typically experienced by many Filipino executives, particularly those who work in big multinational corporations where it seems so much easier to blend in rather than stand out. Here at JRP, we encourage them to do the latter.”

Comprised of five modules, the Advanced Executive Program utilizes a mixture of lectures and discussions, role play and simulation, VTR sessions, critiques, evaluations, and case studies as training tools for its participants.

Become an effective leader and hone your communication skills with Module 1’s Advanced Communication and Leadership Program, with lessons on high-impact communication, connecting with one’s audience, and image management.

Module 2’s Image and Projection offers valuable tips on creating a powerful visual statement through the integration of body movements, power dressing and hair and makeup basics. This is carried over in Module 3’s Interactive and Interpersonal Elements, which features a professional photography session and acting workshop for non-actors to help build confidence and develop good visual projection.

Finally, there’s Module 4’s Dynamics of Interpersonal Skills and Module 5’s Challenges and Strategies, which focus on forging and maintaining strong professional relationships and applying important career principles in your specific work setting.

“Finding your competitive edge does not stop in being the most capable and competent employee in the team,” Padilla-Catala declares. “Your key to moving up in the workplace is actually your knowledge of yourself. Know what you’re good at — your edge, so to speak — and how you can leverage on this to create a positive and impressive statement. With a tailor-fit program like JRP’s, these are things you can discover.”
