John Robert Powers promotes values formation and self-improvement for kids

-

MANILA, Philippines - A child’s manners say a lot about him, and even more about his parents and upbringing. At John Robert Powers (JRP), promoting important values at a young age reaps rewards in the long run, and this is why the globally recognized training institute offers well-rounded and extensive workshops for kids.

“Teaching your child social skills and proper manners will arm him for life,” says Marivic Padilla-Catala, JRP international director. “Children who are well-mannered possess an overall character that others will certainly find pleasant.”

JRP’s Kid’s Workshop has two components designed for the holistic development of children. The first module, Basic Personality Development, highlights personal growth and basic image and projection, with lessons on grooming and how to dress properly and appropriately. Verbal communication, social etiquette, and VTR techniques are also given to children in order for them to be able to see themselves, assess their behavior, and ultimately, develop self-confidence and self-esteem.

“Personality development is vital in honing your child’s social skills, as it will enable him to present himself well, make friends outside his comfort zone, and get to know others,” says Catala. She adds that Basic Personality Development has classes focused on social etiquette, where children will be taught everyday manners, table manners, proper introductions and greetings, courtesies, managing personal habits, and relating with others.

Special sessions that focus on the child’s personal growth, based on five key essentials to a child’s development — affection, appreciation, acceptance, approval, and affirmation — are likewise featured.

“It’s important for a child to grow up knowing how to be sensitive to and aware of his and others’ emotions, physical senses, and behavior,” explains Catala. “Through other people, such as family, they are able to discover themselves more.” She adds: “We want them to know the importance of values in defining oneself and one’s personality. At the end of the day, it’s about helping them develop a healthy self-concept.”

Classes on basic image, projection, and communication are also part of the module, where the participant will learn about personal grooming and hygiene, visual poise, and the appropriate wardrobe for kids, in terms of occasion or the weather. They’ll also be coached on how to overcome speech jitters and will be taught proper diction, enunciation, and pronunciation, among others.

Finally, for students who are interested in furthering what they have learned from the first module, they can opt to move on to the Advanced Program, a second module that features acting and movement exercises, a comprehensive fashion and commercial workshop, and a project presentation.

“Teaching your child basic manners, and more importantly values, gives them invaluable lifelong skills that will help them succeed later on in life,” Catala concludes. “While excelling in academics is just as important, harnessing their potential as a well-rounded individual in terms of personality and skill set ensures that they are armed with the right elements that will guide them on the road to success.”
